I have no use for Anne Coulter. Doubt if I'd agree with most of Ezra Levant's politics either. But, I think the points he makes in the video are right on. I'm against hate speech laws, unless they incite violence. The fact that human rights commissions even took the cases brought against Levant for publishing the Mohammed cartoos is a sick joke. Thankfully it seems to have stirred things up a bit and might result in section 13 being removed from the code.

$1: Ezra Levant, lawyer and former publisher of the Western Standard magazine, spoke before Coulter on Monday and called Houle’s letter a “veiled threat.” A veiled threat? Hardly, it's called a warning, just like those signs a few klicks from the US-Canada border telling American motorists that our speed limits are in KM, not miles. Take it as it was intended, some friendly advice, not a hate crime. If anyone is guilty of hate crimes, it's Coulter herself with her comments like "Take a camel."

WOW!! Ottawa U dishing out threats to Ann to watch her tounge. Francois Houle (AKA Francois TOOL) In his letter Houle warned Coulter that "promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges." What happen to Free Speech, let people show their true colors, and let their peers be the judge. Most people understand that Coulter is the conservative anorexic version of Michael Moore blow hard. Let her spew her obnoxiously stupid hate, and her credibility to be taken seriously is washed away... nothing more than a talking head. http://www.cbc.ca/news/pointofview/2010 ... ulter.html

What I don't get is, I'm SURE the fine people at the UWO must have known about her extremist views so why would they invite her to speak in the first place???

It's the the university per se that invited her, but some group within the uni. As the article says, most of the audience was cheering for her. Of course they should let her speak, unis should very much be free speech zones. What gets me is when they cave because some pro Israel speaker wants to speak but the anti-Israel groups threaten violence.

She attracts three types of people. Those that believe her line of tripe and reveille in it. Those that protest her BS. Then the category I fall under. Those that find it quite amusing to hear just what she might say.
High comedy indeed regardless of if she is joking or sincere in her statements. I would have gone to see just how far she would thrust her foot down here own throat. Looks like she did not disappoint and lived up to her billing.
The knee jerk reaction is to be outraged. Keep in mind this woman is a media whore. Controversy is what she is all about. The more the better and the more press she gets. As The Bard said, "All sound and fury signifying nothing", except perhaps a good laugh.

Ah ok, I was under a different impression. And I very much agree that unis should be free speech zones.

What gets me is when they cave because some pro Israel speaker wants to speak but the anti-Israel groups threaten violence. She wasn't invited by the University at all. My guess is that's the only venue the organizers could find... $1: Her tour was organized by International Free Press Society, a group whose website sets up Islam as the preeminent threat to democracy in the Western world.
"This jihad, like all jihads before it, will continue until a sharia-based caliphate rules the world, or until it is defeated," the society's policy statement says.
The group also sells one of the infamous Danish Mohammad cartoons, signed by cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, for $250. They are currently sold out.
Among the group's board of advisers are Canadian conservative bloggers Ezra Levant and Kathy Shaidle, author Mark Steyn and far-right Dutch political leader Geert Wilders.

As The Bard said, "All sound and fury signifying nothing", except perhaps a good laugh. No doubt, she says these things because; $1: Coulter reportedly commands a $10,000 speaking fee. Her fee is being covered in part by the Claire Boothe Luce Policy Institute, an American group that calls itself the "home of conservative women leaders."

The only one guilty of 'hate crimes' is her. The letter is giving Ann Coulter credibility as a speaker and undue attention. Just let her spew her hate and let the audience be her judge. She is obviously an unhappy person that buys into her own schtick. Most people already know what she is... racist, anti-Canadian... yadda yadda

I find she just says what many people are thinking. Sure, there are some comments that are out of line or go over the top however, in general people don't like her remarks because most of the time it reminds them of the truth.
sorry that hurts but it is what it is.
