BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Bart raises this one all the time.

I'm not sure where the "friendship" is in this uncomfortable and insulting threat.

I'm personally all for a full sovereignty movement to remove any and all American influence and change our trade plans.

The fact that we have (had?) the longest undefended border and we trade with each other more then anyone else is awfully cute, but insanely dangerous with an alcoholic overweight gambler prone to gun craziness and voter stupidity.

Friendship shouldn't stand in the way of our national survival. It's not our fault they've ruined their economy and ruined their country, we should not have to be there with them.

We shouldn't feel every shiver of the elephant.

Hello? When it comes to bolstering Canadian sovereignty when have I EVER not been in favor of that? Canadian sovereignty is the one thing I consistently agree with you on so I'd appreciate it if you'd dare to think before you accuse me of insulting Canada just because you're so biased that you can't imagine an American being in support of a strong and sovereign Canada.

N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog:
For somebody who's supposed to be stupid, lame, and not worth worrying about, Sarah sure seems to worry her opposition.

That’s perfectly understandable. If I were part of the American Democratic faction, I would have serious concerns that a large portion of my fellow Americans would seriously consider voting for such a brainless bimbo for president of my country. I mean in all seriousness she got outta Dodge halfway through her mandate when the going got tough, and people want to give her the power to pull the trigger in a crisis? She’s proven herself completely incapable of answering the simplest of questions unless everything has been rehearsed beforehand. Seriously, she is not representative of America’s best and brightest. She’s as stupid about most things as anyone can get. What is the attraction? Anyone is better than Bush, so she’ll do?

I don't get it. I'd be worried if someone like Palin could actually influence my day to day life.

You really don't know anything about Palin, do you?

She resigned as governor of Alaska because the Democrats were using an ethics law to hound her for idiotic things. If she answered a mundane question in a news interview the Democrats would file an ethics charge against her at a cost to the State of Alaska of about $1,000,000 per charge. She had some 68 charges pending when she resigned and that action closed the books on the charges. Had she not resigned she literally would've spent the rest of her term in office answering frivolous ethics charges. Her political enemies wanted to force her out of office and they won. And now people like yourself who can't be bothered with things like facts are blaming her for responding to idiocy in a mature and selfless manner.

Those same American Democrats you're worried about are the ones who are making Palin into a conservative icon. If they'd stop their pointless war against the woman she'd have less publicity. But instead they blow up stupid things like crib notes into a big scandal and by doing so they are pushing independent votes over to the Republican column for this fall's midterm elections. It's political suicide and it seems the Democrats can't help but be like lemmings and rush for the precipice. They learned NOTHING from the elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachussetts. I hope you likea GOP majority in the Congress because it's BS like this that will make such a thing inevitable.

I'd like to know what you mean when you say change our trade plans. I'll take a guess that your ignoring geography or at least like to replace the U.S. with I don't know Cuba, Mexico, Uganda ?

No thanks, I like the Yanks right where they are.

The only trade players on or about the scale of the USA are China and the European Union. I'm not sure how doing business with China or Brussels would be an improvement over the USA. Add to that the hidden costs of antagonizing the USA and the not-so-hidden costs of creating an overtly hostile and heavily armed nation on your undefended southern border and I am at a loss to see how this would be a good idea.

Canada can be both friends with the USA and be respected by the USA. But it must be a stronger Canada that makes us stand up and take notice.

Bullshit. If that were true and so effective, there would be governors quitting all the time being “forced out of office for the good of the people/office”. I don’t buy that and I doubt you do either. Palin has shown herself to be anything but selfless.

I think you misunderstood my comment. I’m not worried about YOUR Democrats, Republicans or any other faction that boils up from time to time. The woman is a confirmed, dyed in the wool idiot. You can vote for her if you wish. You shouldn’t be at all concerned that anyone is making her into an “ICON” (what a joke!). She isn’t taken seriously by anyone outside of your country, and if by some fluke of rampant stupidity she were elected president, I doubt there are many countries on the planet that would take your country seriously from that point on.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Point made.

But there are many explanations (well, actually, they are excuses) on why that jackass was elected the second time... None of which I personally believe but none of which I've really seen completely disproven. Maybe it was because of the war. Maybe because America just really likes conservatives. Maybe something else completely unlikely and stupid to explain why he wasn't hung at the White House.

IMHO, Bush didn't win either of his elections. The Democrats lost those elections that were theirs to win. Al Gore lost because he put his stand on gun control ahead of his constituents in his home state and in West Virginia. Had he carried those two states that Clinton managed to carry in 92 and 96 he'd have won. Kerry lost because he was a bigger clown than Bush was.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
But after watching some of Palin's speeches, she seems so unmotivated that she seems like a bad actor. I don't think America wants that.

The worst orator the US ever had as President is commonly considered to be Thomas Jefferson who is also considered the best President we ever had. That Palin is not a sophisticated speaker is obvious. What impresses me with her is her ethics in taking on the corrupt Republican establishment in her own state and winning. After that she really did do a great job as governor of Alaska and she had an 84% approval rate before she was selected to be VP. Curiously, the past President she most reminds me of is Truman. A very unsophisticated, but plain speaking person who is very effective in getting things done.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Europe, Asia.

Especially Asia, actually. But mostly Europe.

I don't understand why some believe it's impossible for us to contact or do business with countries outside our little island.

We have ships. We can make more.

Dude, China is a major "business" partner incase you haven't noticed. Go to your local dollar store and check out where all that crap comes from and you want more of it ?

We already do business with Europe as well. Lets say you were head of a car manufacturer in Canada. Surely you'd agree that it would be cheaper and more profitable to do business with another country who shares your border rather than deal only with a country across an ocean on a different continent ?

If you can see the logic of that, then you should know why they are our largest trading partner. Geography. I'm glad its them and not China, North Korea, Iran etc...

You should be too.

Anyone who doesn't take any President of the USA seriously should, themselves, not be taken seriously.
