That's also what I was wondering. For all his flaws in character, Fonyo is no where near the equivalent of wickedness and evil that Morgentaler is. Ditto for other controversial figures like Black, Drabinski, Eagleson, Ahenakew, etc.. They might be crooked or crazy but none of them had actual blood on their hands.

I would rather have seen the OOC abolished altogether than to have seen it given to Morgentaler. It's the same thing as if they had mailed one out for free to Pol Pot.

How many women were injured and killed yearly by underground abortion providers before abortion was legalized? You don't need to be pro-choice to be against back alley coat-hanger abortionists. Morgentaller is a women's rights hero and deserving recipient of the Order.

You award things for accomplishment, revoking an award usually only happens if you cheated in that accomplishment. The rules of the OOC differ and happen to contain a personal conduct clause, big deal.
Like I said, they apply to ordinary louts.
And not to wealthy convicted fraud artists who bilked millions and continue to write newspaper articles from their jail cell.
Only someone small and petty would applaud taking Fonyo's award away. Smaller and pettier than the twats who actually made the effort to do so.

Thanks for the link, I've spent the last 30 minutes speed reading it. T states a clear case for women's rights. However, I wasn't able to find any references to the rates of injured and killed women at the hands of underground abortion providers.

The only reference I remember was one that was provided by a CKA member in an old thread( I wish I could find it) that suggested that the average illegal abortionist was a sympathetic doctor that would either falsify the paperwork to get the woman into a hospital abortion, or they would very conscientiously create a clinic at their own facilities.

That's clearly not the Supreme Court's interpretation as presented in the judgement. They make the case quite plainly that this is an issue of women's health and access to qualified practitioners.
