So because you would prefer "problem" wildlife be relocated rather than eradicated you think this is a moral victory on your part, and you further believe this is an easy answer? No disrespect but I don't. Relocation can be stressful on many animals for many reasons including but not limited to:

Unfamiliar with new terrain, leading to stress.

You get the point...

You'd be like a plate of chicken wings then. Something might go for that!

I guess the elephant must be Muslim.

Full body scans and all that will stop it from killing next time.

I blame Obama, he's Kenyan and the Kenyan security agency should know.

Another failure of the liberals.

Is it right for us to continue to build subdivisions, lodges and resorts in these wonderful, tranquil surroundings and continue to execute the animals that we've encroached on because they're a threat to us?

I think not.

Just as elephants are not the gentle giants they seem, humans are far from the superior species we seem to think we are. Mother nature likes to correct us on that one periodically. It might serve a few of us well to sit up and listen, instead of play the martyr and shoot.

Elephants and apes(humans included) are supposedly the smartest land animals, reacting in a similar fashion when their offspring and territory are threatened. They can coordinate quite well in aggressive acts, such as attacking enemies and rivals.

As for wild animal encounters in Canada, I grew up on the Island and in Manitoba. We had the occasional cougar scare(when I was about 6, we had a cougar and her kittens wander through Belmont Park). However, when my family moved to Manitoba, encounters with large predators became more frequent. The area we lived in was rife with black bears. Berry picking every year always resulted in a few encounters, as did walks or even a bike ride to a friends place. You learned to live with this and adapt your behavior. Someone always watched for bears and everyone made plenty of noise. If that didn't work, we had bear repellant(a .410) and our dog. If you saw cubs you got the hell out of the area, because mom was near. Fishing was also a challenge at times because the bears learned that this was an easy meal.

Too many people are encroaching on the dwindling habitats of animals without the first clue of how to deal with them. They see some of the pap that Disney turns out and think that these creatures are all gentle beings living in peace and harmony with each other. Forgetting that these creatures once culled the slow and dull witted from our own species. People should remember nature is all about survival, kill or be killed - eat or be eaten.

A mother will do anything to protect her offspring, which is what this elephant was doing. Maybe the lodge needs to be relocated.

Actually some naturalists/biologists have speculated that so few humans are eaten(chewed on and left to bleed to death, yes, but usually not consumed) is that we stink and taste bad to other animals. Supposedly it's some primate defense mechanism.

My guess is partly the smell from our clothes and partly because when you die, you void yer bowels and bladder, and with clothing, there's nowhere for that stuff to go so it stays on you and your clothes. Be like eatin' steak tartar 'cept you had them wipe the cow's ass with it first.
