In Afghanistan they are very protective of their women. A man touching a woman out there would be seen by the husband and family in the same light as raping a woman in this country, thus making any attacks against women and children by insurgents that more heinous.

I'm a little tired of people calling this a crime without knowing all the details.
First off, there's no mention of the toweliban fighter being a POW at that moment. Wounded doesn't automatically preclude surrender. I can point you to a few veterans that would attest to THAT little fact. We don't even know if the guy was conscious or not. There isn't enough info in the story about the severity of the wounds. So far, no one has challenged how severe those wounds were. The guy could have had one or two big holes in him and was bleeding profusely. You don't know, I don't know, and neither does anyone else who wasn't there. I believe that will be the pivotal point in the case.
