Streaker Streaker: Mr. Cannon, why haven't the arctic patrol ships and that port facility been fast-tracked, then? I explained this months ago,the mines were supposed to fund the deep port untill they heard the govt might shell out a few sheckles and you know how the rest go's. Honestly,I hate repeating myself, the mines are to blame here, not the govt.

Well, given that the price tag was $100 million or so, it's not like the government can't afford it. that's not even 1% of the annual defence budget.

What mystifies me the most is that this would be such a good time to make these investments - it's politically saleable at this point. People want make-work projects right now. Shipbuilding would be a good one.
So why won't Steve jump while the iron is hot?

Fuck that, now is the time to do the pipeline if the natives can ever stop bitching about how big a wad of cash they are going to get. we could put the whole country to work within a week and have a good future supply of income as gas flows to the states who are also putting in some big bucks to maKE IT HAPPENN.

That only makes us more economically dependent on them, though, making us even more reluctant to assert our sovereignty up there.
I might be okay with doing both, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that the US constantly challenges our sovereignty in the North. Pipelines won't do squat to resolve that.

Nope. Probably trying to find some Canadian way to cut corners and costs, be an overall cheap ass and do nothing until our piece of the pie is gobbled up by Russians and Americans. Then they'd say, 'too bad so sad, we couldn't afford it anyways and besides, those second hand fish nets from Norway to stop those subs are just as good to do the job'. Just more gum flapping as Ruez said and same recycled articles. I thought before those patrol ships were scrapped anyways?

Not yet but I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before they are scrapped by either the Conservatives or their Liberal successors.

My best friends dad growing up was shorty Walmsley, head of the kaiser mine in BC and later consultant to the mines in Columbia. I played pool with Edgar when he got stuck here in blizzard conditions, founder of all things Kaiser.I was just a kid then, but I remember when Edgar got the worlds largest loader and truck for his mine and had a bunch of playboy bunny's come down and pose for a photo op with him, good times.

Tman1 Tman1: Huh? All the mines in the arctic are owned by the French mon ami. Maybe the exception would be the diamond mines but all gold and platinum is french, all the way, they slipped in while we werent looking,30 years ago.

The arctic is a big place and I highly doubt all of them are owned by the French. Not sure what that has to do with arctic sovereignty but oh well.
