Some of you are stating imports hold their values better then domestics... Next time watch the Barrett-Jackson auto auctions on speed... It's nothing to see a 30 or 40 year old Impala go for $60,000+... A Mustang went for over $200,000...

Don't roll your eyes at me... Google Barrett-Jackson... It's true...

Can I walk into a dealership tomorrow and buy a new 40 year old Impala?

AND IF imports are better why do most taxis, police stations, fire departments and other service industries mostly use cars from the big 3?

Familiarity? Special deals? The fact that most such vehicles have a host of add-ons that immediately go on than and those add-ons have been tailor-made for those domestic vehicles and aren't available for imports? I don't really know, I'm just guessing.

Though I do know I'm seeing more and more Camrys as taxis these days.

The OPP and the CAW are a brotherhood. Of course they're gonna buy domestic.

Holy crap, where to start.

Playing handicapped is what motivates me... Thanks for your concern though...

If you’re referring to a mental handicap, you’re not playing. It’s for real. If you meant you’re physically handicapped, what’s your point?

Again, what’s your point? We’re referring to resale in the current market, and you reference a “classic” car auction?

Again, are you serious?
In North America, the big three are the vehicles of choice for a simple reason. They’re cheaper. If you go to Asia or Europe, do you think they’re driving Crown Vics there?

stemmer stemmer:
These are sectors that depend on their vehicles. If they are NOT reliable they can't do their job...

Sorry I don't need a WIKI link to back up my arguments...

I’ll bet you’re sorry, but I’ll accept your apology. Your arguments are nonsense.

Sorry folks...Skipped a bunch of posts but from what I read on the first page there seemed to be a bunch of bitching about patriotism and buying North American but here is my bitch I have a 2004 Pontiac Montana that has 82000 kms on it and I have had to replace the North American made tires twice. The front end is basically falling apart. (Tie rod ends on both sides, apparently head gaskets, et all.) I also have a 2004 Nissan Sentra which so far has had the North American made tires replaced! Don't bitch about people demanding better quality out of what they purchase!

GM turning down the bail out loan should lead to some rethinking about the future of Ontario. A lot of GM production will be leaving Ontario, some probably for Brazil where they are talking about opening a plant. Honda has said that they intend to reduce production as well in Canada. Dealers and parts companies will also disappear as a result too. Progressively less production and fewer dealers and parts companies means a dying industry.

So, we have a few choices. Try to keep production here through incentives with tax payers money despite the fact that the companies may take the money and still cut production.

Buy control of one of the auto companies, so that they cannot leave Ontario and send a manager in like they do with school board takeovers by the province.

Last choice. Decide that the auto industry is dying in Ontario in any event, so instead of trying to support a dead industry, we should be looking at creative ideas for replacing it with something else.

Can I walk into a dealership and buy a 10-20 year old Datsun or BMW? So what's your point.....

BUT I will tell you this THERE are more 10-20+ year old Chevys, Fords, Dodges on the road in NA then German or Japanese... I've see a few early 1970's Datsun 240Zs and Datsun 510s BUT that's about all...

AND which do you think commands the higher dollar - a 1970 Datsun 240Z or a 1970 Corvette!!!! a 1970 Datsun 510 or a 1970 Cuda?

Of course the norm here is to circumvent questions when presented with hard irrefutable facts...

The point is "resale value" isn't about reselling classics. Those are a different market. Resale value is about how much a car purchased new will lose its value the next year, the year after, 5 years down the road, etc.

AND how does a classic Datsun 24Z or Datsun 510 go for? Your name & avatar is not only based upon a Lost character but your mindset is lost somewhere in space...

I'll fire up Photoshop and create a new avatar that is more reflective of your present mental state....

Speak for yourself. You persist in confusing the classic car market (which has its own biases and prejudices) with the general resale market. And now you're tossing in the same red herring Bibbi did in the evolution thread, trying to sidetrack the conversation onto avatars. Forget it. Goodbye.

Let's not forget his 'Wikipedia' is BS argument in the 'Buy American' thread...

Then please post an article where a WIKI or internet source's reliability did stand up in a court of law.... Again it is so unreliable a judge would toss it out of court in a second....
