One person's opinion pretty much counts for the entire argument when that person was the one who made the complaint that started the whole bloody mess. They didn't know why daily singing was canceled, all they cared was that it was.

I'll concede to you that there are many people that are pissed only because it's not a daily thing anymore. However I also know that to many people, myself included it's not about the frequency but about the reason behind it.

That's a far cry from a flat "It's not about how often it's sung," but I'll accept it. I wonder, though, what a good reason would be to cancel daily singing of the anthem.

Same here. I think one of the reasons this guy took so much flack was because he wouldn't or couldn't justify why he cancelled singing the anthem in the morning. I heard rumours it was because of the "god keep land" part but he never did come out and say exactly what the various complaints were.

I will say though that the media really misrepresented this issue and blew it way out of proportion. I'm getting as sick of the "political correctness" thing as the next guy but I don't think it's a big deal to scale back singing the anthem only at assemblies. I don't personally remember singing the anthem every morning other than when I was in grade one.

It's kind of ironic that this came up recently because just a few months ago there was a complaint to the school where my daughter goes about saying the Lord's prayer in the morning. Funny thing is she goes to a catholic elementary school. In the end the school told the complainant that if they didn't like it there was a public elementary right across the street they could go to instead.

I had a job in which the nature of my work made me a frequent visitor to schools. I visited 50 to 100 schools per year. I am talking from personal experience.

50 to 100 schools per year. You don't say!

That makes you the expert!

Bibi, give it up you've lost. It's your experience against her opinion.

Yep, I'm happy my kids go to Catholic school. At least they can say "Merry Christmas" there!

The latest thing (totally off topic!) to annoy the shite out of me is Treehouse TV (yep, I have to watch bloody Treehouse) changing Valentine's day to "Friendship and caring day".

I'm sure some old whiteguy somewhere decided that Saint Valentine's day was just tooooo Christian to keep in the calendar.....sad!

Who's idea was it to stick a god in the anthem anyways? When I was a kid there was no "god keep our land."

Are you serious? Some people can be absolutely moronic. What's next? Are they going to walk into a Temple and tell all the Jews to stop wearing those funny hats?

I rather sing that (as an Atheist) than
"I am of German descent" and
"I honour the king of Spain"

:?

Gotta love the Dutch anthem eh?

He has finally given his 'reason' as 'on religious grounds'. Regardless, that doesn't justify anyone threatening him with harm!

N.B. police investigate 'No Canada' threat

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

HAMPTON, N.B. — Police in New Brunswick are investigating an alleged death threat against a school principal resulting from his decision to end the singing of O Canada at the start of each school day.

In a complaint filed with the Hampton RCMP, Belleisle Elementary School principal Erik Millett alleges he was threatened in person.

Millett has also alleged in interviews with the media that he has received other threats by phone and email.

RCMP Sgt. Claude Tremblay says Millett filed his complaint about two weeks ago, and it deals with only one incident.

Millett said he stopped the anthem after receiving complaints from two parents who objected to it on religious grounds.

The anthem was reinstated last week by order of the local school board after it caused a furor in the House of Commons and prompted a parent of a child at the school to push for O Canada’s return.

Religious grounds is not a good enough reason. 2 complaining parents is not a good enough reason. It should have been decided by the schoolboard.

Political correctness... Damn, ya gotta love that...

STILL!!! Not good enough reason to threaten the man.

I agree with regard to the threats, but i'm curious why you think this is a decision that needs to be made by the school board?

Or the PAC, or how it works  I mean the people in school, teachers and parents on that comittee.

Because I think 2 complaining parents is not enough to make a school decision on. ANY decision. The fact a school goes peanutfree is not adecision by the principal solely either, I take it, so why should this be?

I'm sure this dick teacher will get clocked someday; it's just a matter of time. He touched a nerve that “MOST” Canadians have about our country.

PS
I would tell him not to go to any bars that have HNIC playing.

Yea, probably best to have such decisions voted on by a committee if only to have some other people to share the blame if the decision is unpopular.

\Not looking forward to my condo AGM where we're telling the owners that fees are going up 46%....
