canuckns canuckns: Like I said on the first page. If they do not want to follow company policy then they have 2 options. 1. Find another job or 2. Sign a legally drafted document that states neither the employee or any member of the employee's family will sue the company, the province or WCB for injuries sustained on the job due to non compliance of the companies safety regulations. The employee will not be able to collect unemployment insurance or WCB either.
I'm sorry if you can't take off you trban or whatever, but this is now company policy. I'm sure there are many other unemployed people that would be willing to wear the hard hat and be employed.
Like Newfy said Sikh's apparently can remove thier turbans and use some cloth under the helmet as an alternative. These 2 seem like they just want to cause shit and for that I say tough shit. Obey the policy or find a new F&%*ING job.
I am getting so sick and tired of all this relgious and PC BS that we have to put up with. Don't like the laws get the frack out and go back to whence you came.
No fair,it compromises the safety/rescue team if this guy gets hit on the head.
when they tried it in the underground mines here the mine rescue teams refused to go down into the mine.No mine rescue team and no ones allowed down.
They quickly donned the small turban and that was the end of it.
Haveing about 2000 UMWA miners about to lose there paycheques for a few days may have persuaded them.

dino_bobba_renno dino_bobba_renno:
You dont see sikh's in the patch because they would have to shave their beard so their mask would seal protecting them from sour gas.
Wonder why no ones fought that one yet?

I was just thinking the same thing.
What I don't get here is that this company now has to face off with the human rights commission, which is going to cost them money, for basically abiding by the law. There are provincial regulations, industry recommended practices, and federal laws which all cover off the need for employers to enforce hat hard rules with in their own company safety policies which are also legally binding and required by BC WCB and OH&S. Why is this company being hauled up in front of the commission for enforcing BC OH&S policy? Why isn't the provincial government stepping up to the plate and dealing with this or at least coming forward to help them cover the costs of this dispute?

I'm sure Interferon has made some angry phone calls, the company shouldnt be on the line though, the govt. should be.
If I was the guy with the industrial first aid ticket and called the shots and worked for that outfit I would make sure everyone complied or go home. Your only putting the safety/first aid guys at more risk by not wearing a hard hat.
Even after 30 years of working in sites where your supposed to wear one I didnt allways.
Last year building ice road in july,I noticed oil drops in the snow so got out to check for a leak, then walked right into the ripper of the d7,dropped me flat on the ground for about ten minutes. First thing I did was make sure no one was around and saw me.
Not a tree or mountain around for thousands of miles. So why wear the hard hat?

Huh, there should not be any special privileges granted to turbans, since there are none granted to regular Canadians. Let's be fair !

hurley_108 hurley_108: Guys, I hate to be the epithet police here, but "Omar" and "Ahkbar [sic]" and "Abdul" are typical Islamic names. We're talking about Sikhs here. If you're going to toss out racially loaded names, at the very least use the right ones. Wow, wasn't it you who once accused me of trying to be a forum cop? You're not going to start calling me a racist now are you? Next time I'll try real hard to get the name to match the ethnicity. So sorry I offended you.

football players have to play on the sabbath. Other professions require hard hats. No one's religion is being violated because no one is forced into a specific career.

A driver was strappig down a load of drill casing and he threw a strap over the load of pipe and he didnt check before'' well a yard swamper was on the other side and that steel D ring on the end of that strap caught the swamper right on top of the head.. luckily he WAS wearin his skid lid and we all had a good chuckle over it.. Would have been a different story had he been wearin a ball cap.. Perfect example of "you never know when something is gonna whack you upside your head"

Once again Hurley, as I know that being correct all the time is important to you I apologize for not using the correct ethnic names for my example. I will try to use proper names in any further post. I hope that you weren't too offended. I know how being correct all the time is very important to you.
