lily lily:
WTF?

I like this law, you don't.

End of story.

That whoosh sound you heard again was the point going over your head. I actually love the law...........just wish they'd nail someone racing like they said they would.

He didn't realize it at the time, but doing 50 over the speed limit – 150 km/h on a highway with a posted limit of 100 km/h –

loophole..doesn apply to street racers. They don't race on the highway

I was lead to believe with all the hype that this new law would curb street racing. You don't seem to understand there were already laws in place that covered every point you've tried to make. All of these people charged with the new "street racing" would have been caught and charged with a number of other HTA or criminal offences anyway. There's no bonus to it at all.

How the hell would I know why they're crying........maybe they're trying to get out of the ticket. Then they would have cried seeing their car towed and getting a "Promise to Appear" as well.

I WISH THEY WOULD BRING THAT LAW YO ALBERTA!!!!

QE2 posted at 110 but everyone does about 130 to 150km

They need to get some of these idiots off the road and bring down insurance rates for the good drivers.

I see so many idiots on the road and wonder how the hell they got licensed.

Why? Isn't it a HTA or criminal act to drive dangerously in Alberta? All the laws are there.............they need to be enforced and applied properly.

BTW..........the QE2 is a ship.

130 - 150? I'd say it's closer to 160. I travelled the QE2 several times in the summer and when I had it at 120 on cruise control I had people passing me like I was standing still. People drive way too fast on the highways IMHO.

I agree that the new law isnt being used as it was hyped, to stop street racing. I street raced alot in my younger days and I dont know anybody who has every been charged or caught with racing. The police were not that interest in laying charges just breaking up the crowds. The new law hasnt stopped street racing at all, just moved it more underground and probaly made it even more dangerous as now racers will be less likely to pull over if they see a cop and more likely to run. Racers still have to be proven guilty in court for the charge to stick, but now instead of taking your ticket and fighting it now your choice is to stop or try too get away so you dont lose your car.
The new law is being used to nail speeders( fine with me), but it also now has stunt driving worded in it which give the cops a broad range of driving activities to charge people with (doughnuts, Burnouts, wheelies). I dont see how doing a burnout in a parking lot should be a criminal offence but like all things in Canada you can get away with it until someone complains about it. I guess my point is the government should be more forthcoming about what their intent and goals are. And I'm still not fond of the idea of no appeal or hearing on the suspension and impound. Theres too much room for error and abuse.
