-Mario- -Mario-:
I think that it is time to find another country who will opress its people for our confort. One who can deliver for cheaper... and safely.

Or we could "spread the word of democracy", like in Iraq and Afghanistan! What, no one wants to invade China?

It's par for the course. We don't care and don't want to risk instability or an economic problem. The people of China are slowly being shown a higher standard of living and are satisfied, apparently, because they aren't revolting.

And since nobody cares, an authoritarian regime can stay in power.

You can't invade China.... they probably will retaliate. Iraq was easy to invade. Its just a pain in the butt to have those insurgents. The same with Afghanistan. China would be the WW3. And we don't want that. Another war would kill the economy plus seriously deplete our oil reserves. At the speed we are using the oil today; they are projecting that there is only 15 to 20 years left.

A Canadian business is involved in this, too:

http://edition.cnn.com/2007/US/11/08/to ... index.html

$1:
Toronto-based toy distributor Spin Master Ltd. stopped shipping Aqua Dots and asked retailers to pull them off their shelves, where they had sold for $17 to $30.

I was wondering if that would happen.

You do realize that two-thirds of factories are 100% foreign-owned, right?

Impossible. Chinese law requires all foreign firms to have a Chinese partner. Therefore no factory or any other venture is 100% foreign owned.

yeah, it's probably accidental, I doubt if the toy companies test their toys by having someone eat them (the beads) in large quantities just to know what will happen, eh? Anyway, I do hope that those toys were really pulled out, who knows what will happen if some malicious person gets hold of these things.

Well, on one hand we have Bart Simpson, on the other we have Ian Bremmer, Ph. D., President of the Eurasia group and professor of Columbia University, who says:

$1:
There is another trend that deepens China's dependence on foreign investment. During the 1990s, Beijing facilitated a move away from joint ventures toward wholly owned foreign enterprises. Today, foreign-owned firms account for nearly two thirds of FDI in China.

Who am I to believe?

Believe whomever you wish, but even if you run a woofy in China you still have to have a Chinese "representative" (read: partner) involved in your firm. You may front 100% of the liquid assets to get going but you'll find that you do not wield 100% control (or ownership because control IS ownership) over your venture.

China plays a lot of games to get what they want while pleasing the WTO.

I believe Ian Bremmer. China appears to have chosen to be very transparent in its business, because that will keep pressure off of its politics.

Just heard on the radio----some Italian RC group is protesting the PRC prohibition of Bibles and religious insignia in the Olympics---especially the Olympic village. They cite security concerns.....attack of the Jesuits?

The PRC is just begging to be boycotted.

Only a right-wing nutjob would think that disassociating religion and a sporting event is a bad thing.

Tell that to the Muslim womans events.
Try and forbid them from wearing "religious" costumes.

You really are being a horrid little trol, Neopundit.
