DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Yup. Shot himself in the foot. JWR only followed the law, including recording her own conversation, and got the boot for it. SNC broke the law, many times, and is being rewarded for it.

So much for Trudeau's 'different way'.

And what did Philpot do to get the boot? [huh]

It's disappointing, but I don't think anyone was surprised by this outcome. If this had happened under Stephen Harper, they would have been turfed weeks ago.

As for Philpot's reason for getting kicked out - she refused to toe the party line and back the PM no matter what he said or did.

It's sickening that following the law and having principles is a 'crime' worthy of getting kicked out of a political party.

With Kenney odds on favourite to win in 11 days, Trudeau is going to have to pull out all the stops to avoid becoming a one term PM.

Aside from legalizing pot I can't think of a single thing his government has done to deserve being re-elected. Especially not with the new psychotic levels of excessive regulation, mostly in the energy sector, that's effectively paralyzed business development and annihilated the desire of investors to put their money in Canada. What else has he done that's remarkable, a non-stop apology tour and making a total ass out of himself, drama-teacher style, during the official trip to India? Trudeau Jr is nothing but a lightweight flake.

Expanding CPP remains the best thing he’s done and probably his main legacy. .

Allowing Parental Leave benefits to be paid over 18 months instead of 12 was the catalyst for provinces to increase parental leave to 18 months, but overall was was a half-measure in that it didn’t provide new money, just allowed you to spread the existing amount over a longer time.

His standing up to Trump on trade was also decent.

Aside from that, despite all his other shortcomings and unfulfilled promises, presenting himself on the world stage as the anti-Trump in an age of rising right wing authoritarian populism has given people hope. Even if he doesn’t truly live up to his image -no politician does - the fact that he is able to present that image as an alternative to the shills for the Russian global agenda is a good thing

Conrad Black: What people are getting wrong about this entire silly affair

It is painful to be so out of step with many politicians and commentators with whom I normally agree, but I don’t think the unfolding Jody Wilson-Raybould controversy is being evaluated correctly. As I have written here before, Wilson-Raybould committed a number of acts and adopted a number of policies as minister of justice that advanced the interests of the native people, or at least some of the leaders among the native people, at the expense of the Canadian national interest. She incited suspicion about whether she was exercising her powers even-handedly. She had a duty to ensure that the decisions she took were objectively just and fair. I don’t believe she was blameless in these matters, and it would be surprising if that were not part of the motivation in shuffling her to another ministerial portfolio. I appear to be among the very few people in this country who has mentioned this aspect of the controversy, which indicates the extreme reluctance of anyone to touch native affairs policy. That is an aversion the political class and the media will have to overcome, as it is a vital and delicate field in desperate need of reform.
