I do have to admit China is looking a lot more stable than the US these days.
And its more of a natural alliance for us, specially after we have been back stabbed and bullied by the US since the 80s.
Yes and no. Yes, the Americans have shown themselves to be unreliable allies - I don’t think there’s any other kind - and Afghanistan’s problems will never be solved without the participation of regional powers like Russia, Iran and Pakistan, Mr. Pompeo. Furthermore, it is true that China has made significant recent contributions to Pakistan’s development. However, I would counsel caution on any Pakistani alliance with the Arabs or Chinese. Their attitude to South Asians of
any religion is well documented and runs deep. They despise you. Imagine a South Asian CEO of a large company in the People's Republic. That actually happens on the other side of the world, in America. So deal with the countries closest to you first because they will never lose interest in the region but have no illusions about them.
Its all politics man, just like the west turns a blind eye to China for all its human rights violations, freedom of speech, communism etc etc and continues to trade and deal with them, so for the moment so are we. And the new govt is reviewing all the deals and contracts the previous govts have made with China and China has said it has no issues if we want to renegotiate them.
Its I scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. China gets access to our southern port of Gawadar via a direct land link through our Northern border with it and it cuts down shipping time and costs massively for its exports and imports. In return China invests heavily in Pakistan, win win situation for all.
Anyways Pompeos meeting went down pretty well, surprisingly there was no sabre rattling at all so we didn't have to act tough back, he offered to reset the Pakistani American relations and start on a clean slate and we accepted. Think both of us were just gauging each other out.
But I think he must have gotten a few clear messages, earlier any American diplomatic team was given a kings welcome, red carpets and all, with lavish lunches and all in our Palace like Prime Minister house Today just a protocol officer from the foreign ministry was there to receive the American delegation. Then taken to the foreign ministry in a sparse small meeting room where the talks too place. And no one went to see them off at the airport.
Only clip of the meeting I could find that you would understand so here it is
P.S:Earlier the way meetings went was they would meet the PM first and then meet the Army chief separately at the GHQ. Which gave rise to talks that the military is independent of the civilian leadership, but today the FM, COAS ( Cheif of Army Staff ) and then later the Prime Minister joined in, so it was just one meeting where everyone was present, signalling to the Americans this time round the civil and military leadership is on the same page. And this is not the kind of Pakistan you are use to dealing with in the past.
