I don't disagree with anything you're saying, Beav. And I still think that the PM should buy his own house in Ottawa to live in while he's PM.

Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy: The voting public liked ours more than yours. Harper got 39.6% of the popular vote in 2011 and JT got 39.5 percent in 2015. So,your theory that over 60% didn't like Harper rings just as true for Trudeau. Funny, I thought Harper got 32% of the vote, right around where I said his support is. So 68% didn't like Harper this time around. But keep living in the past, you'll sleep better. Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy: based on the popular vote numbers from the previous election. Not based on popular vote numbes at all, but what polling shows is the solid CPC base. They have to attract more votes than just their base to win, as is true of every party. But they didn't. They actually didn't lose all that many voters, it's that by far the greatest percentage of new voters went Liberal. These are likely young voters, so look out CPC.

Actually I sleep just fine especially knowing that at least 60% of the voters were intelligent enough not to fall for the bullshit and acquire that social media illness called Harper Derangement Syndrome. As for the new members of the other 39.5 percent well done but, my guess is if JT doesn't come through with the 145 billion and legalization of pot as promised they'll fade away as quickly as they arrived, especially when they don't have a left wing inspired bogeyman to be terrified of.

Uuuuh, what? First, why would it cost $10 million? Second, in the video one individual suggested Trudeau stay at Rideau Gate during the renovation. But someone else claimed that isn't big enough. What? Have you seen pictures of that house? It's plenty big enough for a family of 4. If they want to hold big parties, they can go to Harrington Lake.

Lemmy Lemmy: BeaverFever BeaverFever: "Everyone else on the planet" is not a head of government. Can you name one country where the President or PM "finds their own goddamn accommodations"? Nope, not one. How about Canada be the first to shrug off the notion of the presidential palace? We didn't start out with one. 24 Sussex only goes back to Louis St.Laurent's mandate.

Jabberwalker Jabberwalker: We didn't start out with one. 24 Sussex only goes back to Louis St.Laurent's mandate. And it appears you are right. So, what to do. I really can't agree on the PM or Leader of the Opposition having to find new digs for themselves, that would look tacky. If the cost of fixing my house was more than a new house would cost, I would build a new one or buy one in good shape. Unless the house has extrodinary historical value of course. Build a new one!

He's desperately clinging to 2011 when dear leader got a majority. It's going to take him a few years to adjust.

We should just let him stay in Stornoway for the time being, we could put the leader of the opposition up in a Motel Six for now.

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog: Rideau Hall and move the GG into a smaller residence? Why not? It's as good an idea as any!

I don't see the GG being moved. After all, officially that's the Queen's residence in Canada. But we could and should have official functions there. After all, it's the official residence of the Canadian head of state, so why would we run official functions somewhere else? Justin and his wife and kids could live in Rideau Gate during renovations for 24 Sussex. Official functions in Rideau Hall. Parties at Harrington Lake, which is only a 30 minute drive from Ottawa anyway. That's plenty. I never understood the need for a cottage. I visited friends at their cottage, but why? Why maintain a second house? Why not build one good house? But this is the Prime Minister's summer house or "cottage":

I'm disappointed that I'm living under socialism again but what the hey you can't win them all especially when you're dealing with a majority of the electorate that'll believe anything they're told so long as the purveyor of the message is "cute". But, I look at it this way. I lived through Justin's daddy's reign of terror and cult of personality so this should be a cake walk given the youngers lack of guile and political acumen.
