BRAH BRAH: DrCaleb DrCaleb: Quite true. It's not costing lives, and the salespeople bear no fault for it. But VW has gone out of it's way to deceive a lot of people, as Martin points out, it wasn't just a rogue person or two who tried to pull a fast one. It was systemic, from the top down, and a lot of people had to be complicit.
Just like Enron or Lehman Brothers, a lot of people had to be in in the shell game. And a lot of innocents are going to pay for it. That's true and corporate heads are starting to roll as Martin posted and as AndyT pointed out they will drive fine but at the end of the day it's nothing compared to raising the price of a lifesaving Aids drug 5000 percent, if anything deserves World outrage it's that! Don't even get me started on that little punk! ![Hockey Body Check [hockey]](./images/smilies/nhl_crach.gif)

DrCaleb DrCaleb: Good! They falsely advertised a product that cost people $~30,000 of their hard earned money and an untold amount of goodwill for lying about the characteristics of their product. Properties that the buyers wanted - cleaner, more powerful and more economic. All bullshit! Yeah but you have to wonder how many people who bought those cars really gave a rat's ass about emissions when they bought the car. When it comes to the list of things people think about when shopping for a new vehicle great emission levels are rarely going to be the deal closer. As long as the vehicle is legal for their province/territory/state in terms of emission standards the vast majority of people don't give it a second thought (if they give it a first thought at all). This is not to say that VW shouldn't be paying out the ass for their little magic trick, however people in general should cool it on the level of indignation being expressed.

A self-righteous acquaintance of ours was literally at the house about three weeks ago pontificating to us on the glories of her VW clean diesel and how she was doing her part to save the earth and was not so subtle in condemning us for driving gasoline-powered cars. Oddly, we have not had a recent phone call from her which is uncharacteristic of her. Completely unrelated to the dinner we plan on for her the next time she comes to visit.

We need to hire those programmers to write code so your bank account knows when it's hooked up to a Revenue Canada or IRS audit....

Make sure to call her a selfish gullible bitch. VW just hired the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis to help them out. Who are they ? BPs lawyers during Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf. Yeah, everything gonna be fine.

They bought the cars for better mileage and as for emission standards it's nearly crippled the trucking industry because if you're a private owner / driver a DPF deletion is a better option than spending 75% of your time in the shop.
