Read up on Orwell a bit more perhaps.
Ever heard this one from George?
~ Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written directly or indirectly against totalitarianism and for Democratic Socialism as I understand it ~But then there was this one -
~I worked out an anarchistic theory that all government is evil, that the punishment always does more harm than the crime and the people can be trusted to behave decently if you will only let them alone~It might be a mistake to think we had some kind personal insight into Orwell's head. He vacillated from Democratic Socialism to Anarchism.
However what I defy you to find contrary evidence of is the idea he consistently opposed totalitarianism. This is why I feel no guilt in quoting Orwell. I share his opposition.
However I personally think Progressives have less right to say that. It's always been my feeling that whether they know it or not totalitarianism is what they are progressing towards.
BTW Charlie Chaplin's autobiography was the first such book I ever read.
