Heart attack Old Guy. The thing that makes is ironic is that I didn't throw a little shit fit because you insulted me. Just took it as the usual.
My logic didn't fail - a poor response to a minor spill used as being indicative of the response for a major spill is entirely logical. How will they know if the spill is major or minor unless they respond?
But your logic that it's OK to have a slow response time because it wasn't immediately clear what the substance was is very unSpockian. Let's pick our ass while we figure out what this stuff is, it's probably nothing? Wouldn't it make sense to respond as if the spill is dangerous, as it was in this case. If it turns out to be no more tears shampoo later, better chicken little than pollyanna.
Yup no need to find out the facts just go off half cocked and then get crucified for spending money before the cause and substance were even known.
The problem is that some people are claiming that the response to the spill was slow while others are claiming it was perfectly fine. So on one side we have some experts and analysts who have said the response was perfectly normal and those would be the Federal Government, independent Maritime Lawyers and the Coast Guard.
But, on the other side of the coin you have. The Provincial Liberal Government, the former NDP MLA Mayor of Vancouver, the future greenest city in the world, the Maritime Seafarers Union and the former Commander of the closed Kitsilano Coast Guard base saying it wasn't.
Do you see a pattern here because, I certainly do?
Maybe the biggest problem is politics not environmental especially when people perceive everything that happens to be part of a giant conspiracy or, absolutely no problem at all based solely on their political views. Because when that starts happening their opinions become worthless which, is why I said this has become nothing more than an excuse for everyone to make political hay.
The response was adequate but, not great and the information chain definitely needs alot of work. But, the biggest thing that should come out of this exercise is, that anyone with a vested political interest in the outcome of things like this should be excluded from giving their uninformed, semi informed, sometimes irrational and completely politically motivated sound bytes to, any news media or the public.
BTW. If I was to drink an dietary supplement it'd probably be ensure and not Geritol because, Geritol is so 1960's.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play the "Glad Game"
