Last weekend, Alps between Germany and Austria, on the Harley. ;)

That straight down bit was a real chore, they don't show all the curves in the goat path.

Brenda Brenda:
You can get killed going 30 and survive going 180.

It's possible, if you are looking at a pool of enough crashed cars.

However, the statistical distribution of what is likely shows that lower speed crashes don't cause as many deaths or as serious injuries.

Due to the way our bodies are and the limits on material strength used in vehicles, their is a sharp raise in the number of deaths from crashes as the effective speed of the crash raises from 70km/h.

You are vastly more likely to survive a 30km/h crash than you are a 180km/h crash.

Many people either follow the speed limit, or use the speed limit as an offset guide. So that if it says 50 they drive 60, it says 110, they drive 120.

Many people also drive for conditions. I'm not going to drive 120 in a 110 zone in the middle of a blizzard, and niether would most sane individuals.

Doing 20 over the limit in the right lane and still get tailgated by some asshole too fucking stupid and belligerent to use the wide-open left lane? That seems to be the new trick that too many of the fucking fucktards (no matter which province's license plate they have on their vehicle) are now doing these days. :x

That happening here in Ontario too. On an empty 407 with 3 wide-open left lanes the dough brained ass was trying to make the F150 a hood orniment!! I think my grandfather was right licenses are coming out of cereal and cracker jack boxes

Speed may be a factor but stupid is a bigger factor in most accidents

So I'm driving at 80kmh and this brick wall jumps out in front...I'm pretty much dead.

Now I'm driving at 160kmh and this brick wall jumps out in front....am I twice as dead?

Learning to avoid those brick walls would be a start.

Brenda Brenda:
The first thing Canada should do, is make sure people can actually DRIVE. That means, have them educated by professionals. NOT by mothers/fathers/friends, who have also been taught by idiots.

ROTFL

Have you seen most of the drivers in BC? They're terrible and the worst are the young and immigrant ones who've gone through mandatory driver training.

My guess is they're worse drivers than family trained drivers because; there's no carrot and stick incentive by going to an anonymous instructor who when you pass the dubious course never sees you again. Whereas screw up when dad's teaching you to drive and it's no car, no allowance, no TV, no anything because the adult family member sees what you've done.

So, if you want to have professional instructors, then by all means get people who are professionals and not mindless drones who load these kids into cars and have them drive around town at 30kph while they stare vacantly ahead for the entire lesson. Otherwise, don't bad mouth family members teaching their kids how to drive because, experience and caring are alot more effective in instruction than having someone who couldn't give a shit constantly repeating what's written on a gov't issued syllabus.

I find it funny that everyone is complaining how bad "other" drivers are (only Zip admits he's a bad driver), but everybody wants to be able to drive as fast as they can, all the while sharing the roads with said bad drivers.

Are you all fucking nuts??? 8O

I think I'm a good driver, and I don't want to drive as fast as I can. Part of what makes me a good driver. Another thing that makes me a good driver is being a cyclist. I'm aware of how fragile I am, even surrounded by a car, and have to be hyper alert on the bike to stay alive. Just today, a woman pulled out of a driveway right into my path - not sure if she saw me and didn't care or was just blind. Because I saw her pulling up, and slowed down incase she didn't stop, as she didn't, I had no problem not splattering into the side of her truck. All that carries over to driving a car. I don't text and drive, I don't have coffee with me, I don't zone out, I look ahead at what's developing and so forth. Haven't had an accident or a ticket since I was a young hairball.

I never said I was a great driver. But when you sitting in the right lane doing 15 over with 3 lanes to the left empty and a stupid little shit almost close enough to touch bumpers you have to wonder about your fellow drives.

I got over the driving as fast as I could 25 or 30 years ago. I'm way too old to play silly driving games any more.

Lots of extra stupid on display out there at any given time. Giving a drivers license to some people is about as intelligent a thing to do as giving a lighter and a can of gasoline to a pyromaniac. :|
