The "hole in he wall"places are the best! We tend to seek those out far ahead of chains.
Where is this mexican place?

I've heard Tres Carnales is really good too - but it's not TexMex like Taco Bell, it's real Mexican; Mole Poblano etc.

If Bubbas BBQ and Smokehouse reopens, I'd drive halfway across town in a Lada to get some!

The service is kind of slow and the ambience (decorations) are nothing special, but if you want pupasas or flautas or other authentic Mexican/Central America food, this is the only place to go. I got turned onto it by the wife of one of my hockey teammates who happens to be from Honduras.

I've heard good things about Tres Carnales too, but it seems to be the 'cool' place to go for Mexican, just like Julio's Barrio was 15-20 years ago. As such, I've avoided it like the plague! The fact that it's downtown is another reason.

Here's some other choices for Mexican food in Edmonton courtesy of Yelp;

Mexican restaurants are rare around here. The only Taco Bell in the area is across the St-Laurence... never been in one myself. The best in Québec is an out of the way place, that caters to the temp farm workers who come up here.

I don't care about all the fluff, smoke and mirrors (aka decore/ambiance). I want a good, home cooked meal at a decent price. Sounds like we'll have to try that place when we're down there next month. And a few others! Holy. I'm gonna have to compile a list and Google pin them. :lol: Gonna have to make a few trips to the city.

That link is great, too. Thanks! There are always too many cool looking places to try when we're there for the amount of time we have, and are unsure which places are the "good ones". Nice to have input from the locals. :)
