Curtman Curtman:
Nobody is forcing catholic schools to organize a gay-straight alliance support group. They just won't be able to punish students who start one.

Again, will this law force muslims to allow such groups in their schools?

Who said anything about attacking?

Forcing Catholic schools to change their doctrine, or to act contrary to it seems like an attack to me. Just as much as some religious groups that try to force gay kids to be straight is an attack agaiinst them.

So is forcing kids to go to school to an anti-gay school an attack, by the same logic?

Go to a public school. If the Catholic school is the only one in town, then they'll have to adapt, but if there are other choice people should exercise them. Why force confrontaitions? In time more people will be going to the public schools, just as more and more people are leaving the church. Most often due to things like the church's stand on gays, and eventually the church will adapt, as it has in the past.

[Again, if the children there had the freedom to simply leave the school, you'd have a stronger argument. But there is no doubt that there are gay students in those schools who would rather be elsewhere, but do not have the legal authority to make those decisions themselves. My solution would be to give students of a certain age the legal rights to pick their schools, even if it goes the will of the parents, or something like that.

.

Indeed, lets increase the sphere of the nanny state. I just wish it would start providing me with free babysitting as well.

That post literally made no sense.

The ones here don't take public funding, they wouldn't be bound by this. They have certain curriculum requirements, and that's about it.

What I expect is that someone will enroll in such a school with the intent to start such a club at the school.

I'm curious, is anyone going to force the muslims to abide by the same rules in their schools?

They don't receive public funding. But they should be made to nonetheless.

Go to a public school.
That's what Zip is saying, it may not be the kids' decision or choice. If the parents are forcing them, they're stuck.

If the parents are forcing them, they probably wouldn't allow them to join such a club either.

Disagree. You don't take public money, you can do what you want. Essentially you're a private club, and like a private club you can discriminate.

We have separation of church and state, why don't we have separation of church and education? Get rid of it. That's what Sunday school is for.

Why not allow for vouchers and let parents choose the schools they want their kids to go to?
