I think the corruption in FIFA is an entirely seperate issue from this, as I don't think the ref was corrupt or dirty, just not up to the standards needed for that level a game.
Anytime you're so dense you can be talked into calling a penalty that's never been called before during an Olympic match by some loudmouthed obnoxious American, you have long since graduated from just plain stupid to the lofty heights of completely incompetent.
She is living proof of the Peter Principal at work.
I hope she continues refereeing since I'd love to see what other wonderous calls the Americans can get their pet to make.

I'm sorry but you are out of line. Calling Abby Wambach a loudmouthed obnoxious American is totally classless on your part. She happens to be one of the best female players of the game EVER! She happens to be tied for the second highest all time scorer with your own Christine Sinclair. There happens to be a six second rule in soccer. You may not like it, but it is there. It is there for a reason,to prevent teams that have a lead from slowing the game down by holding the ball too long. Claiming that it is never enforced is like telling a cop that you have been speeding down the same road for years, and never got a ticket. Abby counting out loud is the same tactic used by every player [that wants to win]that is down and under the gun. Its what your Christine Sinclair would do. She wants to win. That is why she is tied with Abby for the second highest all time scorer. If Canada was down a goal with 10 minutes left, and Christine was counting down outloud you would be on here gloating about how smart she was,and your victory. The rule is there. You can check for yourself. The call is totaly legal. Abby did her part to win. Calling her names reeks of sour grapes. She has a gold medal. She can sleep well at night knowing she did everything in her power [and the rules]to bring home the gold. She has the admiration of all her countrymen. She is a winner! I think you owe her an apology.
Your comment about the ref being our pet is borderline libelous. You are implying that she is being paid to throw games for the American team. Another totaly classless comment on your part. The American womens soccer team is the best in the world, and has been for quite some time. Four gold medals. Two world cups. Where have you been? You show up late for the party and claim you are getting screwed. We do not need to pay off refs to win. You have a problem with the calls? Take it up with FIFA. Do not insult one of the greatest players that ever played the game. She never quit playing. The same can not be said for your defense. They quit early. They stood around and let an undefended player score. You can't blame that on the ref.The U.S. womens team did the same thing last year in the cup. They were up,and they stopped playing with time still on the clock. That lazyness cost them the cup. Live and learn. Do not imply that the refs are in the Americans pocket. It makes you look petty. Back in the 2002 games when the fix really WAS IN, we Americans had your back. If not for all our bitching,Sale and Pelletier would have been screwed. We Americans want to win,but we want to win fair. I have complimented other countries teams on this forum when they win big. Havxxx`wxe some class. Do not insult a winner who is winning fairly. Do not imply that the refs are in the pocket of the Americans without proof.
I was going to write a huge rebuttal about what I wrote but then I thought why?
Despite FIFAss' own web page defining the laws of the game clearly stating that
$1:
Cautionable offences
A player is cautioned and shown the yellow card if he commits any of the following seven offences:
•unsporting behaviour
•dissent by word or action
•persistent infringement of the Laws of the Game
•delaying the restart of play
•failure to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a corner kick, free kick or throw-in
•entering or re-entering the field of play without the referee's permission
•deliberately leaving the field of play without the referee's permission
Your convinced that intimidating or influencing a referee, even one as gullible as the Norwegian is fine as long as it means winning so there's no point.
And I actually have no complaint against Waumback since she knew she had a shot at getting that dimwitted ref to actually make a call that no one had ever made before in competition. So more power to her although I'd like to think Sinclair would never have done it but who knows.
Hell even your own countrymen couldn't believe the call:
$1:
“I’ve never seen that before,” U.S. coach Pia Sundhage said afterward. Sundhage has worked in the game since they used mammoth tusks for goalposts.
BTW the pet comment stands. The Americans likely didn't ask for her favors but for whatever reason she seems to have decided to give them and anytime a referee answers a question about a game changing call with an imbecilic reply like:
$1:
As captain, Sinclair asked Pedersen for an explanation.
“She actually giggled and said nothing,” Sinclair said. “Classy.”
I begin to wonder about her motives. Maybe FIFAss should be investigating her along with Canada since she single handedly changed the course of history. But that likely won't happen since if they did investigate her and did find anything amiss it would reflect badly on themselves. Kind of like the police investigating the police, not a good idea and never works out.
Let's just leave it at the fact that the US and US Womens Soccer Team can enjoy their gold medal. Canada can enjoy the ban they know is comming for being honest and all the young female soccer players worldwide can enjoy the fact that they learned that no matter how hard you work one bised or incompetent referee can screw you for life.
