saturn_656 saturn_656: Gunnair Gunnair: Fortunately you're not a military advisor. Because preventing high technology from falling into hostile hands is such a poor move. The Russians have had an F-117 from Bosina for what, 20 years now? I don't hear anything about a fleet of them anywhere. But I do see that Russia can't even communicate with a bitty Mars probe in Earth orbit.

Thanos Thanos: I had a Charlie Brown Pez dispenser. I always felt that it accurately reflected my own inner sense of lifelong depression and overwhelming despair. If I had the Snoopy one I probably would have turned out a lot happier. I think I had a bugs bunny one. Without a doubt the reason why I love slapstick comedy right there.

But I do see that Russia can't even communicate with a bitty Mars probe in Earth orbit. 12 years. The 117 is the stealth tech equivalent of an evolutionary "dead end", no subsequent plane used the same method. When the first plane was downed, the 117 and its technology were 20-25 years old. Nowhere near cutting edge. The RQ-170 hit the radar (sorry) in 2009. Biggest threat from all this isn't Iran reverse engineering the plane and mass producing copies, but having unlimited access to the air frame to test and probe for weaknesses in the stealth or reverse engineer the RAM used (I'm sure that it is highly classified). If they find themselves unable, I'm sure Russia and China will have no problems sending their own engineers to garner and salvage whatever tech they can. It isn't an unmitigated disaster, but this is no minor loss either. Consider the technology behind the RQ-170 to be compromised. Lockheed Martin designed and built these drones. How similar is the RAM on the RQ-170 to the RAM used on the F-35 for example?

Thanos Thanos: saturn_656 saturn_656: Well we will never know what the "high level military advice" proposed, and whether that advice was followed or not, will we?
Partisan hackery? Ahem. $1: "Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top al-Qaida leaders who've been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement. Or whoever's left out there. Ask them about that," - President Barack Obama.

I like big ships too, but you still haven't pointed out where the "partisan hackery" came into play. Put up.

$1: Iran has in its possesion a completely intact RQ-170 stealth drone.
Merry Christmas Iran, Russia, China.
Love Obama
You've demonstrated on different threads that you don't like Obama. Fair enough. Your above post demonstrates ignorance and hackery as you take a cheap political shot (which went well wide) on a topic you have no real knowledge on since, oddly enough, you weren't involved in the decision process.

Found a Hardley Davidson at a yard sale. Now need to find something to fill it.

I hope you realize that if you were to apply that line of thinking generally, we could never question or criticize politicians, ever, since the average citizen never participates in those processes. God forbid I take a crack at your favorite president.

Bruce_the_vii Bruce_the_vii: Having a drone is long way from duplicating it. The electronics and optics are uber high tech and you have to have to support multiple programs to duplicate it. I read the Russians are rearming alright but they don't have enough money to modernize the whole array of weapons systems they got. It takes mooocho money to maintain the modern military. They'll just want the good stuff, not the entire drone.

Speaking of LM, weren't they hacked by China a couple of months ago?
Coincidence that it is a LM drone that was 'brought down'?

Coincidence that it is a LM drone that was 'brought down'? Brought down in extremely good condition too. Sure it was a real drone...

Some folks in the west particularly some of us American like to think that the Russians are so backwards in technology that they could possibly understand our technology let alone duplicate it. I'm not sure whether this is just cultural arrogance or plain ignorance. The Russians can come up with some neat stuff.
They probably have some pretty good drones themselves and probably are real interested in some of the really interested in some of the real sensitive modules and to see if they could find some solutions to some of the problems that they have that we don't.
In short it was a very unplanned Christmas present for Iran, Russia and China.
