$1: I've been to Vancouver and know all about which way it swings. Calgary is not far behind, it's changing rapidly. And I live in the heart of Toronto and can tell you it's no European transplant city anymore. I understand the demographic shift due to emigration from third world or poorer countries. This shouldn't affect Canadian foreign policy priorities.

Correct me if I'm wrong but has there ever been an aircraft or navy ship that has held land?

This shouldn't affect Canadian foreign policy priorities. It absolutely will. The changes will be seen at the ballot box. It's one of those things that won't change overnight. America finds itself today having a president who seems to be indifferent towards Europe. It's no brainer things will change here eventually.

Other places will follow, a sideline of our unrestricted immigration is we now have lots of people who don't follow Canada's traditional relationships.

I never said it isn't affecting our priorities, I said it shouldn't be.
We don't have a whole lot to gain by being too chummy with the worlds largest dictatorship.

We don't have a whole lot to gain by being too chummy with the worlds largest dictatorship. What should be is irrelevant here. it is...what it is. If you bring people from China or India, there's a good chance they will emphasize with China and India, if you bring people from Western Europe, they will emphasize with Western Europe...and so on, and so forth. One of the main reasons why we obsess over Europe is because 70% of Canadians derive their ancestry from Europe. If the bulk of our population was from Africa, I'm sure the major headlines in the Globe and Mail will be about Africa, our PM would visit there often...and so on, and so forth. Human nature and all that.

Hello friends. I am exocet82. I venture between Argentina and the good ole USA. While reading through this site, I am amazed at the lack of information that most of the participants have regarding Argentina, the Malvinas issue, nor even the subject being discussed. The Argentine nuclear Submarine has nothing to do with England, pride, nor a response to a regional "arms race" that does not exist. The Argentine nuclear submarine project is a national aspiration dating back to the inception of the nuclear program, which is part of the national objective to achieve self sufficiency in science and technology, power generation, nuclear medicine, nuclear research and development, and all of its benefits, including nuclear propulsion. It also responded to the general need to face the challenges of the cold war, thereby national defense. National defense projects were truncated, initially by the overthrow of Juan Peron, and by successive ill informed and misguided governments. Argentines have learned through experience over the years that these military high technology projects are essential to the nation’s re-industrialization, technical, industrial, and defense independence and deterrence. With the creation of UNASUR (South American Union) and its defense component, the South American Defense Council, the possibility of conflict between its members has vanished and the region has become a peace zone and has adopted a policy of common defense of its members and their vast natural and energy resources. Being a key member of UNASUR and the member with the most advanced nuclear program and technology, Argentina will be contributing to the regions independent common defense with this peaceful technology. Those member states that do not possess the means to equip their subs with nuclear propulsion welcome this development, which will provide UNASUR with the long range blue water deterrent that it needs to become a major player on the world stage. With the right policies, the Argentine Nuclear Submarine would have been a reality 10 or even 15 years ago. With the hardware, technology, knowhow and production capability already available the stealthy Argentine Nuclear Submarine with land attack capability will be lurking in the oceans depths by 2015, with Brazil to follow.

If you took time to get to now this community, you'd notice that the running trend is that threads tend to go off-topic. It's the way we like it. You can always attempt to bring a thread back on topic by actually discussing the original topic (as you did with your first 3 posts here), not by telling us to go back to it. We're not going to change the way we are or operate for you, no matter how politely or impolitely you ask. If you don't like it, you don't have to come back. That aside, welcome to the boards. We have had a few UK members over the years, so maybe you will be able to provide some insight from the other perspective regarding the Falklands, Argentinian issues, and south America in general.

Sashaying into the boards trying to lay down the law reeks of arrogant presumption. Just don't do it.
