170 Kph? Sorry, no. The cop had to stop him. I bet the officer did want to escort them to the nearest hospital but as soon as they went into the convoluted explanation I could see him having noting to do with it. Add to that this was over shopping? Get the priorities strait for once.

What happened if he let them go and they got into an accident and killed someone else? The family of the victims would sue for wrongful death and will win. As it stands this guy will kick up a stink to the media and appeal the fine and will probably get off scott free for being such a dumb ass.

Any hospital should be able to do a C-section.

Not every C-section is the same. The young lady may well have a condition (which is none of our business) that complicates a C-section and thus the husband had every right to get his wife to the right hospital instead of pissing around with some pinhead cops who are more worried about speed limits than a woman who's bleeding out in the back seat of the car they just pulled over.

Good thing Mrs. Bart can't have kids because were it myself in that situation I'd not be wasting time by the side of the road parsing traffic laws with some jerkwit.

Holy exaggeration Batman!

Bleeding out?

Every right?

Nobody has the "right" to put others at risk for the sake of themselves. Nobody.

If it were TRULY a matter of life and death and she was "bleeding out", you'd take your wife to the closest hospital, not opt to drive for another 90 minutes.

You get her into a hospital, get some drugs to slow the labour and ease the pain and then jump in an ambulance and head over to Brandon without putting peoples lives in jeopardy.

Sending her to Brandon from either Portage(20k away) or Winnipeg(50 k) just wouldn't happen. Can't figure out why anyone in Portage would be seeing a physician in Brandon to begin with, as Winnipeg has most of the hospitals and specialists and is 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour away as oppsed to almost and hour and 20 minutes to Brandon, which is a much smaller hospital that sends its problems via ambulance to Winnipeg anyways.
