Just wondering. Wouldn't he need a visa to get in? Who the hell issued it? And if he did not need one, WHY THE HELL NOT???

He probably traveled to Pakistan and entered from there.

And? Still no visa needed?

You can get a travel visa from the Afgani government. I know people who've traveled there, though not for vacation.

OFFICIAL WARNING: Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada advises against all travel to Afghanistan. Canadians undertaking travel despite this warning take serious risks. Canadians already in Afghanistan should leave. The security situation remains extremely volatile and unpredictable.

He would need a visa from the Afghan government, issued by the embassy in Ottawa.

But the borders around Afghanistan are not secure.

Canadians don't need a visa to visit, as in tourists.

Time to change that, then. At least then you know when where what who and why, and you can tell them to fuck off when they need help, as you are going to tell them when you issue that visa, that they are going at their own risk and no help can be expected for free. If they do not accept that, no visa. No visa, no help.

How would the Canadian government stop someone from going to the Afgani embassy and getting a visa?

I agree Dan. Brenda, what difference would it have made if this wandering plonker had a visa?

This is a Stoneage country. You are on your own here.

No Sandals Khandahar with a Canadian mission bailing out the drunks like in Mexico.

People expect the Third World to be some quaint version of Canada with bad toilets. These are bad places where bad things happen routinely.

The only way you could ensure that is to require them to get an EXIT visa from Canada.

Too much Warsaw Pact for us. ;)

Let the boy rot, the travel warning I posted should be enough to dissuade people
from going; if it isnt, then they deserve exactly whats coming.

I wonder if his beheading will be on primetime.

Or will it be another chopper mission, like the journalists from Libya?

No one would stitch Canadian flags to their backpacks anymore, and that one Tim Horton's ad would have never existed.

Sure. In that part of the world a valid visa looks like this:

You are preaching to neophytes Bart. Wolf/sheep/sheepdog is way too complicated a concept.

Let’s wander at will in a bad place. Wow….I’ve been captured by bad guys!
