Truth is no one knows how to drive, Calgary has it's challenges (mostly out of towners that can't figure out the trails).

And why is everything in Calgary a 'trail', Hmmmm? In normal cities we know 'streets' go North/South. 'Roads' go East/West. Addresses then are 1234 Road 2345 Street and we can find the damn intersection. 'Trails' seem to go in circles.

And how many 1st Streets are in Calgary for frell's sake anyway? I had to go to somewhere like 33rd street, and found there are 4 of them in different parts of the city! How screwed up is that!

Thought it was TO we hated?

That's when they used to be called The Big Smoke..

PostFactum PostFactum:
No, we don't hate them, one sky over us, one sky :)

It's hard to see through the smoke from the tarsands.

Seriously.. Hate is too strong of a word for a Province that pays half the bills in Manitoba. Thanks for all the transfer payments.

The trails are the major connectors to each end of town, streets and aves do exist and run n/s and e/w respectively.
It's not so much the 1st streets you gotta worry about, rather all the "a" streets such as 1a od 3 a, but they are mostlky confined to areas surrounding the core.
I will say that downtown is a B^&ch to drive due to all the one ways.

The roads really aren't a problem here once you get used to them. The real difficulty is that they can't take the increased volume that literally exploded in numbers over the last six or seven years. We're still playing catch up too, thanks to all the cutbacks in the 1990's that left the infrastructure in such an obsolete condition.

Feel free to let Alberta join the USA. That'll fix that nasty emissions problem for Canada. [B-o]

They come with a Quebec baggage train.

There are some Canadians who distrust the East and feel the border should run north to south rather that east to west.

I seriously considered it for a while. But then Bush II got elected, and I realized just how stupid the majority of Americans could be. Mixed in with some real nice, really intelligent people.

At least we haven't elected MS Palin yet. That would make a pretty good horror movie:
Sara Palin President of The United States and Commander-In-Chief of The
Strategic Air Command.

The border stops at the mountains. There's BC, and then Quebec with its supporting provinces.

Actually the Donald would make for a pretty good movie too.

Why is it in both of our countries we seem to be attracting the worst folks to run for public office?

It seems like when there is an election you look at the candidates and you look for the lest worst instead of the best.

And on that note... :)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/ap ... steals-pen

ROTFL ROTFL

$1:
Accompanied by a backing track straight out of a bank heist film, a video clip showing the Czech Republic's president discreetly pocketing a ceremonial pen encrusted with semi-precious stones while his Chilean counterpart praises him during a Latin American visit has become an unlikely internet sensation.

...

$1:
But back in the Czech Republic, the clip has inspired a Facebook campaign in which the public is being asked to contribute to a special collection for him.

Participants are asked to send pens to Klaus's office on 2 May "as the president obviously has nothing to write with", according to the Facebook group.

Because we can't handle the truth and because we're a bunch of Joe the Plumbers. We much prefer to get sweet nothings whispered in our ears while we're getting fucked.

Who would want the job? The pay is pretty good, but to put your friends and family through that is too much. Politics should be about voting for someone who believes in similar things to what you do. The way we tear apart people's lives looking for dirt on the opposition is probably the reason you are looking for.

Who are you trying to kid. The pay sucks compared to what a person could stand to make in the private sector. That's probably why we end up with professional politicians who have never worked an honest day in their life and a bunch of poli sci grads with no idea of how the real world works.

Your average mech. engineer in Calgary starts at 125 to 150 grand a year with the option to buy in to the firm with in the first 5 years.
