I think you have a point in the US Bart, and I'm sorry, I don't think a lot of US cops are as well trained as we are up here. The standards on everything in US police are all over the charts. In Ontario at least we have Adequacy Standards which lays the frame work for common standards. Having been to a few US seminars I have been surprised at the differences between agencies.

In Canada though, I think you may want to adjust your reaction to encounters with the local LEO's!

Oh and stick with the taser is lethal argument in a BC court.....let me know how it works for you!

You may have a better insight into VPD than me but I know two guys who transferred from here who are well impressed with them. I can’t see their training being that much different to Ontario’s.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Stating facts that you are uncomfortable with doesn't make it an insult.

I might say the same thing about you. You quite often ignore truth and facts whenever it conflicts with your beliefs and your prejudices.

You invariable view any negative opinion against police (that you don't agree with) as anti-cop or not in keeping with the facts. You then cite your "I'm experienced you aren't" argument, one which you do not hold when the subject matter turns to media or politicans.

You are neither but think your opinion about them is somehow more accurate then other people's opinion about the police or military for that matter.

Facts and truth mean nothing to you in that regard. You have your beliefs/prejudices just as Digger has against the police. For the record he has been right many times in his opinion. Doesn't change the fact that he is obviously biased against them. He has his reasons and you have been up front about yours towards media/politicians.

If stating this fact makes you uncomfortable then well I guess the same thing goes then right.

For the record, your opinion about me isn't anymore fact then my opinion about you.

Also for the record, if you don't get any response to some post you send my way look back through it for any barbs just like that and there will be your answer. Your first PM to me *the one with hmmmmmmm* should explain why.

Now, I'm pretty much done with this topic. You can resume your debate with Bart over proper police tactics but I think he was spot on with how he deals with the public.... but that's just my opinion as a member of the public.

Adios.

In general, the rule of thumb down here is that the more urban agencies are better funded, better trained, and are the ones most likely to do something wrong. We've got scads of rural agencies where no one ever died in the line of duty and where no citizen has ever wrongfully died at the hands of a LEO.

It's not a matter of funding and training, it's a matter of attitude.

Question, if a citizen aims an M26 at you are you going to respond with your own Taser or are you going to pull your pistol on him? Hmmmm?

You take your chances on it being non-lethal if you wish. Myself, I'd rather take my chances with your courts.

Again, the issue isn't training or funding.

I may regret this but....

On the Derby/Brock discussion I consider Derby's perceptions as a citizen to be just as valid as Brock's experience as a cop.

The VPD took a huge step forward with Jim Chu. Jamie Graham was a disaster, but Chu seems to have really cleaned things up.

If you're talking about the Victoria Police Department, please don't call them the VPD. And, guess who they hired when Graham was fired (as in contract not renewed) in Vancouver?

Well, a taser is a prohibited weapon in Canada and as such it's use by a citizen would carry a stiff penalty. If a taser was used against an on-duty officer, control of that officers firearm could be gained by the offender. Again, UoF is something that escalates or de-escalates according to the offender. I haven't heard of any accounts of 'taser vs taser' in Canada but I have heard of a security guard vs cop in the US.

I'm interested to hear more about VPD. PM me or I use the taser!

Hey, citizens pay our bills and our retirement. Thus their perceptions are both valid and germaine lest we find ourselves another line of employment.

Since we are on the topic of Tazers: Justified or not you gotta admire the fact plus size women aren't letting their size deter them from acting like everybody else.

Opinions can be heard and listened to. However, at 0100 in a dark nasty place with a job to do, opinions won't stop the job from getting done.

Just for context, this incident took place a few blocks from this one
$1:
A 13-year-old girl was the first victim. She was shot outside of a home in the 200 block of Stella Walk at about 8:30 p.m. She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she remained on Sunday, police said.

The second shooting occurred at about 8:40 p.m. in the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue. The third occurred in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue at about 9:15 p.m., police said.

The victims in the second and third shootings were adult men. Both were killed.

Police said shootings appeared to be random in nature.

Officers said on Sunday afternoon they are planning to have more resources deployed in the North End on Sunday night. Meanwhile, residents told CTV News they are afraid to leave their homes.

That's not your typical Canadian neighbourhood, it's one of the most frightening places to be at night that I can think of.

Obviously, if you're not armed you stand a good chance of being victimized there.
