As I said, the cop convicted so far on the drunked, off duty, unprovoked assault on the newspaper deliverer is still on the job. Another guy's trial is ongoing, and a third was not charged. But does it really make a diff that they were off duty? I'm not sure any cop convicted of a violent crime, or anything beyond a summary offense should remain on the job. We've got a couple guys right now awaiting trial who are up for the second time, ie they had already been convicted of violence - one one the job.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:

He's lucky to still have his job.

He should fired before a court has tried him?

For a journalist you cherry-pick your causes that should be dealt with summarily. Or is it just cops that are the focus of your lynch mob style of retribution?

My lynch mob style? I have no such mentality. Please stop telling lies about me.

He can be fired without ever seeing a courtroom. A disciplinary panel (of senior RCMP officials) can do that on their own.

To make you feel better let me rephrase my comment: "He's lucky he's not suspended pending the investigation."

I didn't know you could be charged with a crime like this and it have it remain optional to remain on the force. If they don''t get rid of him then they'd be worse at PR than politicians.

I agree Mr C. I think any cop convicted of a criminal offence should be fired on conviction. It's like that in the UK and I was surprised to find it wasn't the case here. I think it's time the police sorted these maggots out.

You get convicted of any criminal offence you get fired, that's my view and I don't think it's too much to ask.

See, we're no so far apart. We both want a clean police force that has the trust and support of the community. You're just willing to cut them more slack than I am, or see things as justified that I don't.

We 'aint too far apart at all andy.

The difference is that I know the wanker cops are a rarity. I take great pleasure in holding the wankers accountable when I find one and I will never defend the indefensible. If a cop breaks the law, charge them.

On the flip side I think you believe the wankers are a far bigger minority than they actually are.

Maybe somewhere down the middle. We sure seem to hear an incident like this every other week. And I bet there were more than 5 among the 18,000 G20 cops. I mean how many had removed their badges? Why would they do that unless they thought they might raise a little mayhem? Still a small minority, but big enough that police forces need to do a better job of how they recruit and train cops, and then make clear that undeserved violence will not be tolerated.

The guys who ditched their name-tags did were hunted down and charged under the Police Act and rightly so.
That's exactly the kind of stuff the cop haters leap on. Wear your friggin' name tag and stop the silly complaint from being filed. A lot of the people at the G20 were just looking for a reason to complain, why give them a gift?

I didn't know that at the time. Last night this story came out that he's still working his desk job and I responded. I expect reporters to get their facts straight but sometimes they fuck up.
