ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
He's equating the syllable /his/ with the possessive pronoun his, which is pronounced /hiz/

That and the fact there is an actual movement trying to rename history because the 'his' in it implies it is only by men.

Same thing really, Christmas is only Christian in name, Babylon had the fest of the Son of Isis on Dec 25 too, let's just rename it to Feast of the Son of Isis Day.

Because you slag people for what they actually do, rather than just creating a straw man to knock down. Womyn have a point - history has been mostly told by males, so there's going to be a bias there. Of course they take that idea and run way too far with it (like it wasn't Einstein that discovered relativity but his wife), but there is something to it.

It's too bad the ignoramuses didn't take the time to research the word's etymology as it has little to do with "his". It's no wonder these morons came up with the nonsense they did.

Well, you should write them and tell them so. I'm sure they'd be interested. Mustang is a gender neutral term, right?

Nah...i'll let your obvious genius lead the way.

I think you got your quotes wrong there, but I helped you out.

To be honest, I think there's a LOT of wonder being how it's supposed to be a University. Ya know, a place of higher knowledge and learning. IF they can't get something like English right, what the hell are they teaching their students?? Or, better question, what the hell are they doing teaching at all?!?!

You and Mustang really don't get it, do you? The Womyn aren't under the illusion that the his in history derives from the male possesive pronoun. They're making a rather clever point, since certainly there weren't many female historians in the old days.

Sheesh, you guys have me defending the womyn, what's next?

Actually, i do get as i've delt with it on numerous occasions on different campuses (you? I doubt it.). And here's a shockeroo for those like you - many PC police have little to know understanding of the word's etymology or the discipline's particulars, and many DO think it means HISstory. It's not clever, witty or provocative, it's a sign of pedestrian thinking and agenda-pushing. It's sad that you missed it and were impressed by it.

It's called historiography and any first-year knows about the issues inherent within sources. So?

Women just love to drop trou as long as they can pretend it's for a good cause and not because they want to be ogled or anything. The smaller one looks like a lot of fun. I could dress up like a dog and chase her around anytime.

Meh, I think it's merely hysterical bs, trying to make a point where there isn't one to make.

Why does everything have to be so black and white with you? There is a LOT of grey in between, you know. Even a little gold, if you look closely.

School teaches kids how to become productuive citizens. It focusses on social indoctrination over education and always has.

Take me for example--bright kid, not crazy about school. Helped win my school a prestigious national mathematics contest; failed math. Too many absences and late slips therefore an automatic fail. That's when the penny dropped for me. It's not important how well you do at school, it's important that you show up.

It's important that you don't think orignally. Instead you job is to regurgitate what you've been told. In college it gets tougher--you regurgitate what you've been told, but in a subtle manner so that both you and teh school can pretend that you're not regurgitating what you've been told.

My 7 y.o son is already learning this--he wonders why they don't do any math and gym class is always "dance." I don't really know what to say wihtout confl;;icting him, so I just say "Let's go into the garage, crank some Avenged Sevenfold and play air guitar." Magic!

Frank Zappa Frank Zappa:
"Drop out of school before your mind rots from exposure to our mediocre educational system. Forget about the Senior Prom and go to the library and educate yourself if you've got any guts. Some of you like pep rallies and plastic robots who tell you what to read. Forget I mentioned it... Rise for the flag salute."

Frank Zappa Frank Zappa:
If you want to get laid, go to College. If you want an education, go to a Library.
