Yeah, because I had military experience. I was hired to go into dangerous areas(Somalia) to teach kids, or that i spent years working to dispose of of UXO in former combat areas, so innocent civilians weren't being killed and maimed....but hey that doesn't fit in with your preconceived assumption that people who serve their country are only weapons.

There are plenty of people who serve their fellow man and society while supporting themselves and their families, that never leave Canada. The thing is they don't just complain, they go out and do something that's going to a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others. You couldn't fid a bluer tory than my dad, but he was also hard core union. he didn't see any conflict in fighting for the working man while being a firm believer in the 'establishment'.

Maybe off topic but maybe prudent....why do the Conservatives and Liberals sift though leaders like orange pulp through a strainer but the NDPs, since I can remember, still have the same leader...Jack Layton?

Unless Ed Broadbent is planning on coming out of retirement Jack Layton is the best the NDP can do from amongst their ranks. Depressing wouldn't you say?

I think that it's due to the fact that Conservative and Liberal leaders are expected to win elections.

Maybe more choice and intelligent politicans in Canada will goad young voters instead of the same crap every single year....just a thought.

Because the NDP have no chance of ever being in charge, federally. No chance of real responsibility means no real jeopardy with keeping the same leader. The Tories and Libs are vying for power and both have a decent shot at getting it so the pressure is real and more intense.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
I would never be a part of the military and would never serve a state I don't believe in as their weapon for objectives. It's sad that all the incentives for military makes it the top/one of a few choices for not having a life of Kraft Dinner. Which I suppose creates more incentive with said realization.

Overseas paid better?

You don't believe in Canada? Maybe you should change your name to 'Mr Drop-out'.

Young people in my district vote, and force other young people to vote too. It's why the NDP has this place on lock down in the first place (Spadina-Trinity).

People can vote if they want to. They shouldn't be forced to.

I find conservative turnout is always higher than liberal, I don't know why it's like that. Even in the USA conservatives come out in higher numbers. If all the liberals got off their asses and went to vote, North America would be a far more liberal place. Liberal apathy is universal lol.

A for the digression of student loans and debt, Mr. Canada has this one 100% nailed right.

This generation's situation is nothing like the baby boomers before them. Life is tougher, don't let the glitzy toys fool you. Young people are poorer now than they were 30 years ago. We won't see the effects for at least 10 years, when many of these young people still don't own homes, still haven't paid back their debt, still haven't bought life insurance policies and so on. A gaping financial hole of debt, and deflation would set upon us, just as it has in Japan over the past 20 years. I understand why we're pumping 260,000 people into Canada every year. We desperately need them for this whole system not to collapse.

I don't know about other provinces but here in Quebec the loans and scholarships are very good. Add a part-time job to that and you are living very well for a student.

BTW. "Young people are poorer now than they were 30 years ago." That statement is totally false.

Quebec is known for its very generous tuition fees. They are heavily subsidized. And Quebec as a province would be bankrupt without transfer payments. I don't mean to offend Quebecers, it's just how it is.

Is it? When you factor in inflation, young people are today in Canada worse off in terms of purchasing power than their peers 30 years ago. I know this for a fact for the USA (if you don't factor in their African population which skews the numbers downwards).

Never let facts get in the way of a scary story about the youth destroying the world. Have you ever noticed the same people who will tell you that politics is a waste of time, will often spend hours and hours yelling at television screens when their favourite sports team is playing?

I agree. You don't like it? Get out and vote and get your voice heard. Otherwise, you forfeit the right to bitch.

What if I totally disagree with the current political system and how all the big three political parties are bought and paid for by interests? Or that I completely oppose their crappy reformism? Or that there simply isn't anyone in my area to vote for who represents anything close to my radical views?

Am I forbidden to bitch?

If you don't get out and cast your ballot, yea! You are forbidden to bitch!

I was a teenager once. I turned 18 in 1999. The field wasn't any more inspiring then, but I still couldn't wait for the chance to cast my votes. Since, there have been four federal elections, three provincial elections, and four municipal eletions. And guess what? I've voted in Every. Single. One.

Because you know what else? It's my duty as a Canadian.

When you grow up and are entrusted with this sacred right, I hope you exercise it. Vote Conservative. Vote Liberal. Vote NDP. Vote Green. Vote Marijuana. Vote for all of the above. Vote for none of the above. Write a haiku about how much they all suck on your ballot. Just put that bit of paper in that box.
