F**king McGuinty and his Fiberals!! When will this insanity end?? Where's the increase in services for all these rate/tax/fee/etc. hikes we're getting hit with??
This is bloody extortion already!! If this latest hand into the pocket isn't enough of a motivational piece to vote him out, I don't know what is!!

Apollo Apollo:
Interesting that many are talking about cross border shopping. Just got back from Buffalo. Tons of great stuff at great prices. Purchased the usual clothes, electronics etc. This time, we added dish soap and other items that would have had the eco tax on it, including light bulbs. That's $1,400 that the Ontario Liberals aren't going to tax. I figure I would have had to pay close to $2,000 for the same stuff in Ontario. Spending an extra $50 in gas is well worth the $600 in savings. Plus it's fun and I love eating at the IHOP in the morning and the Olive Garden.

"Anything to declare?" Yes, $65 worth of stuff. "Have a great day."

I totally agree Apollo. I think we have reached the tilting point where we will now actively avoid paying silly prices for stuff.

How much in purchases can you bring back across the border ?

Are certain items restricted ? I've been wanting a new big ass HD tv that'll burn out me retinas.

I dont know for sure but I do know that its better to declare something rather than nothing. The amount you can bring across the border increases quite a bit if you stay overnight. My wife and I have done that in the past too. We look at it as a weekend away and the savings more than cover the hotel and any other expenses.

$50 after 24 hrs and 400 after 48... they are not too bad if you are under 100 for a day trip.. go on the Canadian Border Service and get the I declare pdf it explains stuff. there are some things that are exempt from duty and you can bring them back.. I think certain grocery items etc.. check it out though.. you can bring what you want as long as its allowable and you pay duty on it..

You're right Ken. They are mostly looking for liquor and smokes. Luckily, I'm a non smoker and an occasional drinker.

Get a mate to drive up before you half-pissed and smoking. They will just wave you on.

stokes stokes:
Damn i want to go back to the west coast, even gordo isnt this messed up!!!

Sure he is.

We've had the environmental fee on things for years and I don't see any escalating environmental tax on fuel oils in Ontario...........yet.

The only real difference between Gordo and Dalton is that Dalton just wants to be Bob Rae, but Gordo wants to be the Governor of California.

While I feel like vomiting after I read that article, I would actually be a bit more forgiving of this tax crusade if our government actually set realistic and quantifiable goals. Something on a bi-monthly scale and not just, `more jobs by 2012!` which is also probably bull.

I wish we knew the exact benefit of this HST, eco-fee, and future `Non-tax revenues` (what a joke of a term). It might actually validate them instead of basically telling us it is a tax grab and we have to eat it.

The fuckers who tax us should have thought about the fact that there are choices ken.

Funy how you complain about high tax and fees and yet your perfectly willing to see Canadians pay high taxes for unneeded defence programs .
