EyeBrock EyeBrock:
kenmore kenmore:
Actually I met Mme Jean and I found her quite down to earth and ordinary. There was no pretentiousness or air of elitism. I have read some of Jean Daniel Lafond's books and view some of his films. He was at one time a supporter of separatism, but denies that now. Most of the country feel she has done a good job and represented the country well. I believe she has. There was a strong showing of people who wanted her term extended so I think it was because of her good work. She is moving on to another post in which she will represnt Canada well and I wish her success.

She might be a good chick but she was telling a French audience that she was Canada's head of state, and she isn't. I'm also suspicious of her French citizenship and her French hubby.

The French (as in from France) are not great supporters of any monarchy and are especially not jolly about the British-Canadian monarchy.

Both Brits and the French harbour resentment towards each other that pre-dates the Noman invasion of England in the 11th century.

Having French citizens be the Queens rep in Canada has always seemed dubious to me.

Also Jean seems more interested in her country of birth than Canada and I see she's now the UN special envoy to Haiti, as in not Canada. She obviously has very mixed loyalties and her hubby is patently anti-Brit.

Good riddance.

here here. All that and she was a Conservative shill. Good riddance.

Oh behave! Martin appointed her did he not?

A Conservative shill who was an FLQ supporter, had French citizenship and worked for the CBC?

You''l be telling me next that Lew McKenzie is an NDP plant.

She pledged allegiance to the Queen on her swearing in did she not. And she is a Canadian Citizen. She denied and denounced support of an independent Québec and has continually advocated and supported a united Canada. She did a helluva job and represented us well.. I say bien à vous Madame ! Bonne chance! Merci beaucoup!

Ok,

Now that she's done with the GG role she can go back to having the FLQ over for dinner to build her and her English Queen hating husband some cabinets for their living room.

Enjoy the pension.

Ken, one thing that I have sussed out in this life, people don't change. They can put on a good show but really, people stick with their personal core values.

I'm not convinced that Michelle-Jean is that committed to the Canadian monarchy or Canada outside of Quebec.

You don't have to be a brain surgeon to see that she is far more interested in Haiti than Canada.

27 September 2005. Explain how Harper managed to have her appointed?

This is akin to OTI claiming Chretien took over in 1992. Wrong is wrong.

If you can do it so can she. Correct? You may have truly made Canada your home but you retain a sizable number of English mannerisms and interest in your former home.

You changed. Why not afford her the same curtesy?

I'm not the special envoy to Manchester. I only have a Canadian passport.

I still have an accent but I am way more at home in Canada than I ever was in England. I've also spent 50% of my life here. I'm feeling more Canadian than British.

You know the old saying. British by birth, Canadian by choice.

I've not actually heard that saying before. Still she has lived her for far longer then 50% of her life. She moved here when she was 11.

Legally and constitutionally she met the criteria. Nobody was complaining when she ate the seal flesh were they? You cannot defend the monarchy and its traditions at the same time as denying the constitutionality of an equally important part of our tradition.

She did her job well and that is the end of it. We have a new GG now so its all academic.

She still prefers Haiti to Burlington.

You don't seem to be getting the obvious here. If she did such a great job, why was she dispatched to China when her direct boss came to Canada?

Her website used to have on it that she was 'head of state' and that was closed down once it came out.

She might have eaten seal meat but she didn't enhance the links between her office and the Crown. She contributed to what her husband calls "...the fraying of British Canada..."

She was appointed to appease Quebec. Endex.

It's time we stopped worrying about what the Quebecois think of English Canada and just celebrated our heritage like the Quebecois celebrate theirs.

Appointing French citizens as the GG isn't doing that.

Harper actually consulted with the Liberals and the NDP on his current choice and agreed that Johnston was best suited for GG. It's about time the the "rock star" era of GG has ended. We have now have someone who knows a thing or two about our system and is not going to over step his role like his predecessors did.

Imagine if our GG had roots from England and a crisis happened there and that person spent alot of time focusing on England. I would imagine a certain people in this country would be screaming bloody murder.

R=UP I'll second that. Maybe then, people wouldn't think Canada's only cultural difference over the US was health care.
