Sure this is a big ego trip for Harper, just like the 1997 APEC conference and 2002 G-8 were for Chretien!
Same shit, different day...

ASLplease ASLplease: well the libs have never been big on security spending.....How many times did Cretien have to do his own body guarding duties? The Liberals just don't understand that other leaders wont tolerate their sloppy and slack security methods. Someone outside of the bedroom of a Canadian Prime Minister may be ok for the Lib policy makers but its not ok for the rest of the world. Yeah, they only spent half a billion dollars to host the Kananaskis G-8 conference in 2002...cheap bastards!

Although I have a cheap mortgage, any recently moved workers from Ontario would need a very good paying job to afford my house.

So then you're implying that inflation makes the $500 million Chretien spent in 2002 equal to Harper's $1.1 billion? Sure!

To a certain degree, yes. the biggest difference between 2002 and now would be the cost of services which is directly affected by the cost of labor and indirectly affected by the cost of housing. Even in 2002, these costs were substanstially higher in Toronto than they were in western Canada.
But why are you challenging me when I've already agreed with others that 1 billion is too damn much? are you so intent on debating something that it doesnt matter what or who you debate?

Not at all. You called the Liberals cheapos; $1: well the libs have never been big on security spending... and I called you on it (and that was without even bringing up the billions they spent on border security after 9/11). If you don't want to get called on the bullshit you spout, then stop talking! If you want to keep flapping your gums, that's fine too (I don't care one way or another), but be prepared to get called on it when you spout BS. That's the way internet forums work.

I am well aware how internet forums are supposed to work.
I'm suppose to respond to your every comment in a way that either polarizes the discussion further or personally attacks you or your character.
I wonder what will happen if I don't participate.
When the topic comes back to sharing our opinions, I'll continue to participate.

Lemmy Lemmy: Fuck the bowing; buy me a beer! If I ever see you in my area, I'll have to take you to Moose's (and research marginal diminishing returns...</dork>). Lemmy Lemmy: Kinda like my thing for tits? I do have a t-shirt reads "Economists do it with models." lol! I remember seeing a shirt somewhere which said something like "Economists know their curves" and got a good chuckle out of it, but that one is far better. ASLPlease, the CPI index does know show the Canadian price levels increasing from 100 to 200 from 2002 to 2010 -- they merely increased from about 100 to about 116, according to the Bank of Canada: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/en/cpi.html. It does show the general area of inflation as a result.

If did then really understand how forums work, you'd know that anyone who says nonsense is going to be called on it eventually. What's worse is that when the conversation doesn't go your way, you respond to using rep points. It's quite sad really. I'll take the high road however and won't bother sending any back your way...despite you're making this a personal attack. All you had to do was say, "Oops, I made a mistake" and it's over. Whatever crybaby. Take your ball and go home already...

so lets sumarize this:
Harper government is hosting 2 summits in 2010 for approximately twice the cost of the 2002 Cretien summit.
And, they are doing it in a higher priced area called Toronto.
And, they are hosting more people.
And, it appears that they did it well under the CPI index of 1.16
