Brenda Brenda:

The medical community knows full well that the biggest challenges ahead are chronic diseases that you cant fix with a cast like you can with a broken arm.
Chronic diseases dont go away, they stay around for life, so do the new challenges they present like low energy(causes weight gain), pain(makes it difficult to fight weight gain with exercise), weight gain, depression(antidepressants causes weight gain), stress(caauses weight gain), fatigue ( causes weight gain) negative feeling and emotions ( causes many of the other symptoms to become worse)

Low energy should mean less intake of food, which means no weight gain.
Pain is not to solve with food, so no valid excuse.
Depression doesn't necessarily cause an increase in appetite, usually it makes you lose appetite, and thus weight loss.
Stress, see above.
Fatigue doesn't cause weight gain, it makes you freaking tired.
Negative feelings and emotions don't cause weight gain, it might increase your "need to eat".
Conclusion: Bad food and comfort food cause weight gain. There are plenty of ways to eat healthy and thus NOT gain weight.

Now I have a challenge for you. How to eat healthy and GAIN WEIGHT? If someone knows the answer, please let me know.

Glad to see someone pointed out the cause and effect might be back-ass-wards here.

As Brenda says why is it this bad stuff and meds causing weight gain when it just as well could be weight gain causing them.

While I am certain a percentage of obese people have some natural condition i think there is a considerable percentage, if not move than half who are their own worst enemies.

Before my sister's rise to (i'm guessing) 300 lbs she was happy and active in sports. She has no chronic diseases at all and only this year went on meds (anti depressants). It was not until after she tipped 200 her fatigue kicked in followed by depression most recently. All these things came from the fact she'd stuff her face with not just a piece of cheese cake but the whole bloody thing in one sitting. This led to her knee problems, fatigue, and depression, not any medical condition or meds.

My Step mother is on more meds than I've known anyone to be on and shes only lost weight, granted this is likely due to her condition, which no one knows what it is, so just add more meds to her

If a company is paying incentives on paychecks for weight loss its only a matter of time before one of those with legitimate uncontrollable weight conditions sues for discrimination and walks away with the biggest bonus of all.

Stay away from processed foods and general bad stuff and use protein shakes between meals. Catch is its best to also work out when using those or it will create bad fat, and it get pricey, and the shakes taste like crap, and when you stop taking them it might all come off unless you've turned it into muscle.

Maybe not the best solution then lol.

So a woman complaining about needing to gain weight? I have to say that is a first for me. I have a high metabolism and my wife hates me like the plague for the fact I can eat more than her and not gain a pound while she has to count calories.

ASLplease ASLplease:
Yogi Yogi:
Reread my post. I stand by it. Although some people are overweight due to bonafide medical condition, they are in the minority!

If I only respond to what you write and assume that there is nothing implied. Then I agree. However, I do feel that the persons with the bonifide medical conditions are grossly understated, and perhaps not yet diagnosed.

Yogi Yogi:
The vast majority of overweight/obese people are so because of stuffing too much food down their gullets,

Again, if I respond to what you write and do not assume that anything is being implied, then I agree. However, I feel that the group considered to be 'gluttonous is often overstated, and perhaps misdiagnosed. I think many of them have underlying medical conditions that contributed to their gluttony and obesity. for examply, how much blame do you assign to an undiagnosed respiratory condition thatinfluenced how a youth reacts to exercise? We cant assume that all children will feel energetic after a 1km jog, the ones with high upper airway resistance are going to feel the same way as a healthy person that jogs 35kms. That is bound to have an influence on how they see exercise and how much exercise they do while growing up. Sure the HUAR doesnt make the personobese, but it contributes to the set of circumstances that creates the obesity

Yogi Yogi:
and not doing any exercise to counter-balance!

What you do, and what you eat is less important than how much you eat. So with that in mind, even an athlete that is packing an extra 10lbs is a glutton.

Yogi Yogi:

Fact: calories out= calories in, weight is static.

YMMV. your mileage may vary
You are just as guilty as a motorvehicle branch that says "this car will get 40 miles to the gallon"[/quote]

Absoluteley nothing is implied!
