Why the hell are our most recognizable and revered police force not properly trained in the use of a reliable weapon like this??????

Not just now but over the years. 2Cdo was apparently correct about police and firearm training or the lack thereof.

You sound surprised that I would know this. Even though I have been military for a little longer than forever, I have worked with various police forces throughout Canada as well as shoot with/against them in competition. The average officers weapons skills is horrible, and their "elite" ERT teams and the like are often not a lot better. Most officers are supposed to re-qualify yearly on their weapons and most don't. I have also known some officers, thankfully not many, who were actually afraid of their pistol due to the minimal time spent handling it.

So the idea of the RCMP handling MP5's again leads me to believe that their will be an increase in weapons "incidents". :?

Ok, I agree with a few things there. Most cop TAC teams 'aint that good but...

Every cop I know requals twice a year on the pistol, once a year on the shotgun and taser. If they fail they get 60 days to requal then their weapon is taken from them. At OPC the average recruit fires 2000 rounds on their pistol before they graduate.

Under instructional conditions with a full class on the range, 2000 rounds is 1500 more than provincially required and easily enough to become proficient on a weapon. That was the idea, to become proficient, not to impress the gun nuts amongst you.

see 2cdo's comments above. I think that sums up what I have been saying since my first post.
