EyeBrock EyeBrock:
A lunatic is a lunatic in any religion. Being a lunatic isn't as popular as it used to be in Christianity, it's left to a very small fringe.

But hey, the Islamic world has embraced the lunatic ethos and it's now mainstream in a caliphate near you!
With about 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, you had better hope not!

PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9:
KInda ironic that the press has NO problem labeling them as "Christian" and yet when Hasan did his thing at Ft. Hood, boy oh boy the press were VERY careful to not use the term "muslim".

Having said that, even if they refer to themsleves as Christians cuz they have the "Book" don't make them Christians anymore than if I filled my study with nothing but medical or legal texts and called myself a doctor or lawyer.

I'm not arguing a point about organized religion either, trust me. I left the church 27 years ago when I was 16. What I didn't do, was drop my faith.

The problem is, because I consider myself to be a Christian, I sometimes have to defend my personal beliefs because of idiots like this wonderful family, Irreverand Phelps and the rest, that I feel, do NOT represent the teachings of Christ in the slightest bit.
There is one particular Bible verse that seems to get missed, even by many so-called Christians,
"Hate the sin, but love the sinner." I'll admit, I have a hard time with that one sometimes too. Phelps is one I developed a hate on for, for over 20 years now

These fools from Michigan(whom I hope get the book thrown at them for conspiring to commit acts of terrorism ie:treason) were/are NOTHING like the people from ALL the various churches I went to throughout Ontario and in Winnipeg and Edmonton.
I guess the difference is, I'm not blinded by religion. I'm quite willing to call a turd a turd regardless of what religion they want to paint themslevs as. And this particular "family" should be sterilized if they're not gonna rot in prison for the rest of their natural lives, so they can't keep polluting the gene pool.
You should see the rants I've made about the Catholic Church  Not against Catholics in general necessarily but against the church's hierarchy and the way it conducts its "business".
And just so ya know poquas, just cuz someone calls themselves a Christian while they commit or conspire to commit horrible acts doesn't mean I'm not gonna shit all over 'em and hope the best for 'em

I'm of two minds on a post like this:

Firstly, I think nutters tend towards extremes of anything they can get their hands on. I don't think Christianity drives people towards violence so much as violent people adopt Christianity as a vector for their nuttiness. Could be both, each person is different.

But, to ex-communicate evil-doers as "fake" Christians, or bad Christians shows a small ignorance of the bible.

Check out Matthew 10:34-39

10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

10:36 And a man's foes [shall be] they of his own household.

10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Armed with this teaching of Jesus, one can certainly understand violence as being very Christian indeed.

My second point is one FOR the Christians. When nutters like these get arrested, moderate Christians DO come out to condemn them, something I note a lack of in other more violent Abrahamic religions...
