Thanos Thanos:
Keep building that new Maginot Line, Derbs. It doesn't change the fact that right now Stephen Harper's justifiably and merrily LOL-ing in your general direction.

You keep storming into France with your Harperite tactics too. Hell, for a while it will seem like you have won it all but we all know how it will end up.

Good, lets keep the momentum going right through their entire ranks.

The country would be much better off without Liberals anyhow.

Here here! I'll drink to that! Down with the Grits!

This is a major fau paux for the Liberals. Only their brand is keeping them afloat through this but by their own action have been made fools of like a bunch of rank armatures after this. The Whips and party heads need to step down. This is exactly what killed the reform party and with the Liberals looking to be hijacked by unelected NDP cronies steering the party right into the rocks of the far left with stunts like this (Ujjal Dosanjh and Rae). Iggy seems to be on autopilot and if he thinks he can just ignore this the Liberals are sunk.

Why is it that you think because a handful of anti-choice Liberals are making more of a statement then the entire CPC party voting against it especially when its all to obvious why a left of centre party like the Liberals has MPs that fall on both sides?

Don't you think the people will realize that what killed the bill was the entire CPC party voting nay or do you think that regardless of what side they took the Liberals should have voted as a group?

Kinda kills the whole free vote thing.

The Libs go down, then the Conservatives go down, back and forth. It's one of those circle of life things. I wouldn't count on either going away.

But the simplest thing, in this instance, would be to give the CPC a majority. :D

What matters is when a whipped vote is on the floor that the opposition tabled that their own party defeated the motion. That speaks to crediblity of the queens loyal opposition. Like it or not this was a confidence motion the opposition party sprung on itself and ended up caught in their own trap by rank amature leadership. How can they be trusted to lead a country when they can't even lead themselves?

It wasn't whipped was it. In fact as a matter of law it was a bill concerning out of Canada affairs and thus members are granted more freedom of latitude. This wasn't a non-confidence motion (that was the budget earlier). Although I lament the result it is hardly surprising that the Libs have both pro and cons for abortion and hardly surprising that the CPC is all con and the NDP is all pro.

The objective was to get legislation and support for womens reproductive rights in 3rd world countries. That failed and that sucks.

The "Trap" if it exists was to expose Harpers CPCs true position on abortion since they have made herculean efforts to avoid addressing that issue since 2006. They did that in spades.

We now know who supports womens rights and who doesn't. On the surface this will hurt the Libs but only because of a knee jerk reaction. In the long run they gained the abortion chip to use against them and that issue will above all prevent a CPC majority and might cost them the next election.

Let me rephrase that. By the time the Argos & Maple Leafs win anything, the LPC & CPC will have long ceased to exist and man will have landed on Pluto or something.

Don't see the big deal here.. voting against the party should be a right. Sometimes there are issues that some members don't agree with. Now is harpers world dissagreement means a ticket to the door. Thats his form of democracy.

Why should Canada even be meddling in other countries affairs and beliefs? Who are we to tell people they should have abortions or should use contraception? I think these are matters that they should decide for themselves and how to go about doing. Not to mention many developing nations are devout Roman Catholics or adhere to other religious views where these ideals are greatly frowned upon or even considered murder. This is a very controversial topic even in our own country and should be one that I think left avoided when discussing ways to help people.

As for me personally I do not agree with abortions and think it is wrong however I think this is up for the woman to decide for herself what her beliefs are on this. I also don't think it should be a publicly funded procedure because people who do not agree with abortion should not be forced to contribute to it.
