offtopic -- can anyone tell me what the deal is with the lack of Standard transmissions these days?

More and more people don't know how to use a clutch so they're not buying them.

i agree.
More and more people don't know how to use a manual choke so they're not buying them.

They'll never get rid of the standard transmissions. People who buy cars based on performance don't pick automatics.

The manumatics will replace the manuals. No clutch pedal to press, can operate on automatic or under full driver control with paddle shifters, and just as efficient, or more so than a manual. It's just a matter of working their way down from the more expensive cars to the cheaper ones, like all innovations.

More and more people don't know how to use a clutch so they're not buying them. Also, with more and more traffic congestion a stick means you're burning out clutch plates in stop-and-go traffic. I can drive a stick, but my Volvo S80 is an automatic because when I bought it I was doing my daily driving in heavy commute traffic. Now I ride the bus or ride my bike when the weather is decent (the new job is just seven miles from home).

How unstereotypical of you. Shouldn't you be driving some Detroit pickup truck to fit your image? I guess at least Volvo was owned by Ford, but aren't they made in Sweden? Watch it, there's socialism built into every one.

That would be nice, but the battery thing seems to still be a problem. The Tesla seems to do pretty well, if you can afford it and it meets your needs.

Every vehicle comes with a transmission as standard equipment - some also offer optional ones. You mean a manual? Most people don't want them. They don't drive in a way that makes a manual a better choice. And with the new manumatics, I think manuals are on the way out. Why have a manual, when you can have a transmission that shifts much more quickly, is just as efficient, and in fact seems to return better fuel economy.

yea I meant manual. I know they manumatics are efficient and effective, but I love the connection to the car you get with a manual. I was looking at the new 4runners and it's not even an option and it made me sad. Plus, it's all I really know how to drive.

I know auto trannies have come a long way, but if your hands are always having to be busy shifting, then they can't be texting or doing makeup . . .just saying.

I was taught driving in a manual. As all Dutchies do. Automatic is an option, and will be put on your license as a restriction. You have to have a year drivers experience before you can drive a manual without lessons (from a driving school, which is mandatory).
I still prefer manual. In traffic jams, its a bitch tho

So GM is no longer offering hummers? Thats OK. Apparently Hillary Duff is!

Lucky Mike Comrie from the Oilers. So many jokes .....

The Oilers suck and apparently so do their girlfriends.

Oiler fans are hoping they don't blow the big one. Mike Comrie is thinking the opposite.

Fans are worried about the Oilers choking. I'd be more worried about Lizzie McGuire

Man that made me lol at a really unfortunate time.
