KorbenDeck KorbenDeck:
I'm not saying go back to a 20th century manufacturing economy, I am saying we should be manufacturing more of our products instead of importing them from China and still paying the same price as if it was made in Canada. I worded it wrong my bad. It’s not only about quality but about responsibility, as I stated what’s the point of having environmental or labour laws in Canada if we just outsource jobs to countries that do not?

I'll presume you meant "the same price as if it was made in China", well, that's not going to happen. You can't have it both ways. If they (China or whomever) can do it more cheaply than we, then it creates two major benefits: 1. the product is cheaper; 2. our labour is 'released' to do other tasks that can earn our domestic workers higher wages. I agree, we should be demanding higher quality products and that means being willing to pay a higher price for them, but that doesn't mean we should do that production domestically.

The tariffs are also another way bring in some extra money. Personally I think all products imported (with some exceptions) should have a tariff on them, and all that money should go straight to our National debt.

But where do you think these tariff dollars come from? They come from Canadians. It's Canadian consumers that pay the tariff. When we tax imports, it's a tax on Canadians, not foreigners. That's French (or Chinese) for inflation.

We cant offord to get ourselves into a situation like the USA is in where we import far more than we export.

Why not?
