In quebec we get a day off for Saint Baptist (however spelt), but not for Rememberance Day (so people can pay their respects). " Follow by example!"

Most provinces don't get Rememberance Day off.

Only 4 don't, right? Quebec, Ontario, one of the territories and Nfl...
Other than that, I think that is stupid. Remembrance Day is a special day for all, who want to remember the fallen soldiers since WWI (if I am correct). Especially with the huge amount of Quebec soldiers fighting and dying atm in the wars, I think it is ridiculous Quebec doesn't have the day off.

It used to be a holiday in Ontario. When that changed, most veterans supported the idea of having kids in school on Remembrance Day, so that they'd have to go to Remembrance Day assemblies instead of spending the day playing road hockey or video games. I support that move. Kids should be in school on Remembrance Day.

The school my kids attend does the assembly the day before.
I think it is up to the parents (who are off too) to take them... Apparently, you think we can't count on the parents anymore to do that.

Im all for having a late work day, say businesses open at 1pm. That way people still have a chance to go to the ceremonies, and businesses dont loose a full day.

I'm sorry but this does no pass the bs test. They are on their 200$ phones playing games sitting on their asses does not even come close to freedom of speech or expression. It's stupid and it's lazy. The school is to blame for letting this be an issue. If they don't want to sing, fine but they don't get to sit and gab either. Why aren't they being sent home? This is a PRIME requisite. If I had a kid in that system I would show up unannounced and if I found my kid sitting down his ass would be black and blue so he couldn't sit down.

They shouldn't have their phones at school either. If they do, that's on the parents too.

And on the school. The one mine attend does not allow it. If you have one on, you can go to the principals office and get it back after class. If you wear a spagetti top or show a belly button, or no shorts underneath your too short skirt, you can go home and change.

Most schools have those "rules", but ask any teacher how much texting goes on in the building nonetheless.
