I knew not the man. Or much at all of his politics. Should he have been 'marked for life, and remembered forever because of one tragic accident? Although I myself have indeed brought up 'Chappaquiddick' in a previous thread, I'm ceertainly not qualified to answer my own question. Therefore, RIP Mr. Kennedy.

leewgrant leewgrant:
A womanizer, pro-abortion and pro-gay and he will get a full Catholic funeral.

Ain't politics wonderful?

The other issue is, will this be as big an event as the death of Michael Jackson?

I have to agree with you there. The family is full of people that would be in jail if it were not for the family name and money.

Funny how certain people are tolerated but detested when they are alive but once they are dead are fawned over as if they had been perfect. They are already trying to decide which family member will take his place in the Senate. Pathetic how the people of Mass are given a royal succession instead of a true election for their representatives.

Ted Kennedy got his seat because his brother vacated it when he was elected president. A close family friend was appointed to the seat temporarially because Ted was not old enough to be elected. Once Ted was old enough, he family friend stepped aside.

My condolences to the family. I will say, though, that he was a fighter for what he thought was right, whether I agree with it or not. He may have gotten to power on the shoulders of others, but he was a convincing and challanging speaker.

This is a tough one for me to comment on. Young men fuck up. Most of us were drunk behind the wheel when we were dumb kids and are lucky not to have hurt anyone. But Ted used his family connections to avoid ever being punished for his fuck-up. So, part of me wants to say "Fuck you, Ted. You should have been a man and owned up to your mistake."

On the other hand, he spent a lifetime doing public service work, when he could have done nothing and lived the high-life on his family fortune. In a lot of repects, his tenure on the Senate makes his legislative legacy much more important than either of his more famous and higher office-holding brothers.

I get the feeling that Ted was genuinely remourseful for Chpappaquidick, but I wish he'd been remourseful enough and man enough to not have used his influence to beat the legal ramifications of his fuck-up.

Not sure how appropriate your comment is but the irony is thought provoking.
