The government screwed the pooch on this one. This is a little like the poor sot who slept in our embassy for six years. At least the embassy people had the good sense to let him stay.

6 years.. Evil old Harper's only been in for 3. What happened before him?

At least no one sent her away to Syria to be tortured. :D

No comment on this:

$1:
On August 20, 1940, in Mexico City, a Soviet assassin wielded a pickaxe to crush the skull of Leon Trotsky. In London, England, on June 8, 1968, the murderer of Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested as he prepared to board a flight to Brussels. On December 14, 1999, United States Customs officials at Port Angeles, Washington, caught a member of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda with bomb-making equipment in the trunk of his rented Chrysler. These seemingly unrelated events have one major factor in common: all three men carried Canadian passports.

I dug it up just for you. :D

Nope, no comment. They were caught.

RR you seem to have a great deal of difficulty in dealing with the realities of this mess and it causes you to become manic in your attempts to belittle the problem.

You weren't even aware of the facts of what happened and at the same time you throw in as much crap to misdirect the topic as you can. Even another "CONSERVATIVE" member called you on it and you just go on your merry way blithely throwing irrelevant stones. Have you no shame at all? I could probably help you with that problem.

What was done here was wrong. No ands, ifs, or buts. It had to be done at a senior level and has to be investigated.

And for your additional flawed information, the Americans sent you know who to Syria.

Too much said.

What the hell is it with you guys? Is it impossible to address this incident without NEEDING to draw some kind of compression with ANYTHING else? You’re acting like my kids when they were 3 and 4. “They did it too” sound more childish at this level.

There is no defence to what happened in this case.

Actually, given instances such as Maher Arar and Will Sampson, it's demonstrable that the Liberals when in power genuinely don't give a shit what happens to Canadians when they fall afoul of foreign governments, and are then raped, tortured, and thrown into medieval dungeons. This instance with the woman in Kenya is also demonstrably less severe than the instances that occurred under Liberal governments. Yet, because Stephen Harper is a Tory, he automatically receives about 1000 times the denunciation than Liberals ever did for examples that were clearly about 1000 times worse than the Kenya incident.

I'm sorry but in this case the comparative differences in the Opposition and media reactions are very important. You don't have a leg to stand on with this issue. This is a "gotcha" moment where Harper, the Tory party, and the diplomatic service, are all being condemned as evil racists. Nothing you say will erase that fact.

I'm still thinking that the woman who was first denied at the airport. I know the newspaper says she was in jail all that time but it's not the fist time a newspaper was wrong.

It demonstrates how the media treats certain issues depending on which party is in Government. Sometimes, comparisons highlight the media bias when previous incidents under the old government went unnoticed or reported on very little.

There is no defence, but it's interesting to note the slant of the coverage in this case.

To be perfectly honest, I've seen no significant slant at all on this in the media. Being described as a “gotcha” moment only verifies the paranoia associated with a stronger than normal belief in one particular party.

The facts have been revealed across the board and other than the politically retarded here the general consensus has been shock and dismay that this could go so far off the rails. The fact that anyone is looking at Harper and his people is simply the fact that somewhere in that group is someone who did something seriously wrong for some, as yet, unknown reason.

When the likes of RR starts frantically dancing like this, only fills me with the suspicion that there’s going to be much the same coming out of the governing part to try and silence this.

If it goes silent then it'll only be because the whole schmozz is in reality just another example of bureacratic incompetence rather than deliberate government malfesance. What it boils down to is noting more than a case of mistaken identity that resulted in some minor-to-moderate discomfort and worry for the person in question. And, and was pointed out previously, there's also a strong possibility that the entire mess was created by some folks in customs at the Nairobi airport who did this because the woman didn't grease their palms in order to ensure that she got on her plane on time.

I don't expect the immediate political jerkoffery to stop right away though. Screaming "RACISTS!!! at someone is about the biggest nuke that one can use as a smear against an opponent. If they think that they can make hay over it, even if the accusation is total bullshit as usual, I doubt the Liberals and Dippers and whoever else are going to bother to stop levelling the charges for another week or so.
