A possible invasion of North Korea would provide the distraction China would want so they can invade Taiwan.... So I believe China would encourage the west & USA to do so...

So I am against an invasion into North Korea..

A nuclear strike by the west would not be wise... However we can not sit idly by and risk the chance this mad man may launch a strike into Japan or Hawaii...

I like the idea of some sort of covert action that assassinates this thug. He must be put down like any wild, rabid animal... Then the west could win the support of the North Koreans by providing them with aid... Time is of the essence and Obama must be a Churchill and not a Chamberlain... Obama must now put aside words and diplomacy, replacing them with some sort of covert action...

Like the CIA in Iran in '53. Solved the problem nicely in the short term, not so much in the long term.

Fine by me. I've had quite my fill of US neocons to last quite a while, thanks.

And unfortunately there isn't any other option available when you're dealing with a collapsing state that's just armed itself with nuclear weaponry. The situation is too inherently unstable to do anything else. And if the gung-ho George W. Bush recognized that North Korea had to be approached differently than he did with Iraq and Iran then why does Barack Obama deserve the smears for doing the exact same thing as Bush did?

Theis is all hyperbolic silliness anyway. If the world survived the US and the USSR pointing over 40000 nukes at each other for the better part of four decades then we'll survive Kim Jong-Il and his pathetic arsenal. Or at least we will if those advocating reckless brinksmanship would back off and grab a clue.

Did Stalin threaten to launch a missile into Japan or Hawaii? That's the BIG difference...

You know guy's this is all a diversion from the real player in this story. North Korea is and has been prop up by China for many decade. (where do you think North Korea get it's energy, food, and fissile material??) If China really wanted to stop Kim Jung ill, all they have to do is a few phone call!

Who alway block the harsher security council sanction against North Korea?? -----> those are the real player in this story the rest is just a diversion.

Well, Stalin's successor Khruschev put ballistic missles into Cuba and shouted out "We will bury you!" from the podium at the UN. I wouldn't even begin to equate the danger of those horrible days with what's going on today.

One political solution that I have heard of is encouraging Japan to go nuclear as a means to compel the Chinese to crack down on North Korea. Has anyone heard anything about that or has a good idea of how that would play out?

Stalin didn't give specific targets. He just said, "Fuck with us and we'll let 3 or 4 thousand of these fuckers rain down atomic bar-b-que on whomever". Safe to assume a few of those 3,000 would have USA zipcodes programmed into their guidance systems.

No, that's a lame theory! Does anyone REALLY believe the Japanese don't have a nuclear arsenal? Of course they do. I can't see the Chinese buying this since it's all a nudge-nudge-wink-wink story that Japan has no nukes.
