Hyack Hyack: Miranda is used in the US of A. Canada has the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Not exactly. The US has is the 4th, 5th and 6th ammendments to their constitution, which is virtually the same as our legal rights entrenched in Sections 7 - 14 of the Charter. "Miranda" just refers to the case that the US Supreme Court ruled on back in the 60s (Miranda v. Arizona) which established that American police must read people their constitutional rights upon arrest. Cops in Ontario carry a laminated card that they read which is almost verbatim to what American cops read. I presume that's the same elsewhere in Canada.

Noonan is the border crossing south of Estevan and only has about 140 people. Not much of a major Canadian city, plus 3 police officers are hardly representative of the entire law enforcement community in Canada.

I was referring to the 3 family members you claim are serving members, and you base your code of conduct on. And, as it stands, a city of 11 000(Estevan) hardly qualifies as a major Cabnadian city...if you meant Estevan is the only real town in the area.

But your 'stories' are so interesting. They approach a level of realism that one could almost believe they are true. Every great writer had their detractors, so don't let me stop you, oh sage wordsmith.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect an officer of the peace to at least not speak in a beligerant manner. That includes swearing. I don't care what kind of pressure a cop is under while s/he is on the job. That is part of the job, and they should know that when they sign up.
Another profession that is not allowed to swear is pilots and air traffic controllers. One swear on the air can land you in handcuffs. I hope I don't have to explain why.

Lots of the places I work dont allow it,pilots are let go for swearing on the radio. Do it on the military base and your kicked off for a week minimum. No reason for cops to get a pass.

My cousin is a pilot, and he informed me while we were flying a Katana that there is no swearing on the radio under any circumstances because the police will be there to arrest you when you land.

My moms boyfriend years ago did some swearing into the radio while doing a canyon turn in the mountains, just before he crashed head first into the rock face. My mom never flew again after that, she was a commercial pilot, bush pilot and an instructor for the cadets. My bro and dad stopped flying soon after that and we sold our plane.

I've heard swearing on the radio while on deployment, it is not encouraged, but while you are being mortared and screaming into a radio to some guy safely inside the TOC trying to get fast air or helicopter support to help you with your present situation and he is replying "Say again over....." it can be understood and forgiven.
