novachick novachick: Guy_Fawkes Guy_Fawkes: Good thing you have a wonderful counter argument, otherwise you would just look like a military groupie, who feels that a soldier can do no wrong once he has a medal. Your whining again. I don't recall my having said a soldier can do no wrong once he has a medal. Military groupie . Hey Taraa I'm a military groupie sweet lets start a military groupie group

Guy_Fawkes Guy_Fawkes: do you really think giving back his medals will do anything? Did the medals "do anything" in the sense you mean when they were given to him in the first place? No, it was a symbolic gesture to recognize his involvement in and contributions to the military, and giving them back is likewise a symbolic gesture.

I dunno...As a 'civi' I was in more precarious situations(discounting typhoons and storms in the Bering Sea), in shittier places, than I ever was when I was in the military.

Were you in Bosnia, at any time? Not to reduce your contribution, and not every soldier is exposed to the same things. I know a few people who were there, I can tell you now that not one of themis playing with a full deck these days. Also keep in mind everyone that this was 1 guy out of a whole group fighting to get their benifits back to what they should be, if it brings attention/sympathy/empathy or even if people don't agree with it at least it's out there.

Again he was in Bosnia in 2001, not the early 90s, Im going to go out on a limb here and say he did not have a hard tour. Im not saying this to make his medals less important, but a lot of people here think when you say the word Bosnia it means he was getting shot at constantly while having to de-mine backyard gardens.

Guy, stop being a wanker. This guy did his bit and got treated well shitty. I have mates who have been in combat with similar experiences. Only generals like Dallaire get nice jobs when they leave. The rest of us have to fight again when we leave.

Im not saying he isnt getting a raw deal, he definately is but he is going about it the wrong way. The best way to get change is by doing what Bill Casey is doing, not by giving back medals and pouting. I dont think this guy should be praised for his grand standing. I doubt your mates were one of the others tossing back their medals to the GG.

Gunnair Gunnair: Guy_Fawkes Guy_Fawkes: They should say thank you, and sell them to a museam for $1. This guy is just grand standing and should not be given the time of day. Guy served his country, got injured in the line of duty, and is apparently being screwed out of his pension by his country. Good on him for making a stand, even if it means handing back medals. Easy for one to call it "grandstanding" if one does not have the courage to do it themselves.

I doubt your mates were one of the others tossing back their medals to the GG. He was injured while carrying out his duties. He deserves every penny of his pension. It is reprehensible that the gov't is screwing him over. Choban Choban: Were you in Bosnia, at any time? I was in Somalia in the late 80s and early 90s, as a civilian, working for an NGO, under the 'indirect direction' of the UNHCR and UNESCO(useless fucking tits).

I completely agree he deserves his pension, I will never say he doesnt. His little protest should not be praised though, we bitch and moan at the seperatists for using the same tactics. When a soldier tries it he is brave.
