$1:
The large group ended the protest around midnight after leaders were able to speak with the office of Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.

The problem is Harper is saying that we will not have a Battle Group in Afghanistan at the end of 2011. That doesnt mean Canada wont still have troops in Afghanistan, we still will, but the numbers will be much less. However it wont stop people (ie Old Jacky Boy) from protesting and calling Harper a liar, it wont matter that it will only be roughly 60-100 people. 8)

dino_bobba_renno dino_bobba_renno:

Harper has stated that we are commited until 2011. As far as I know that hasn't changed, if you have a link to an article that says different please post it.

That date was set almost a year ago when they negotiated it with the Liberals. Prior to that any date set for departure of the troops was being called treasonous by some of the people on here now supporting it and that Harpers position was he doesn't cut and run. I believe that is what Mr. C is referring to.

Do they really expect help for blocking the Gardiner along with other major streets and intersections through out the city? It all seems childish to me and not the way to go about gaining our governments support! :?

This looks like a co-ordinated effort.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/u ... 266397.ece

On another slant, if the Six Nations guys can block roads and major highways without police or government raising a finger, why not the Tamils or any other group that wants to further it's cause by being a pain in the arse to everybody else?

Once we turn a blind eye to civil dis-obedience, as we did in Caledonia and on the 401 near Belleville, we are saying anybody can break the law and the cops will just idly watch it all happen.

We get the society we deserve.

At least they aren't assaulting cameramen who record them roughing up old folks, or setting fire to bridges.

True.

But that aside the Tamils are not doing themselves any favours on this.

There they are waving the flag of a proscribed terror group and blocking a major highway to protest about something Canada has little input or control over.

IF they are so concerned about their "homeland" why don't they go back home and take up a gun...instead of trying to get Canada involved in their conflict?

Next it'll be the Lebanese protesting non-intervention when Israel bombs, then maybe the Somalis and so on and so forth.

Personally, I'm very pleased to be living in a country where it's citizens can peacefully protest the government without getting the snot beat out of them by some brain dead, remorseless, son of a bitch with a uniform.

These are people like you and I,Canadian citizens who are losing family and friends by the hundreds. I'd have little respect for them if they did not take to the streets to protest and so would most if they took the time to think about it. [B-o]

Protests are healthy, just do it legally and don't cause problems for people that don't want to be involved.

Sure can...the Falun Gong protest outside the Chinese consulate in Vancouver is that way, just a vigil outside the consulate and banners.
