Streaker Streaker:
I guess this is okay.

As long as they don't bring back the Airbourne Regiment.

I agree. The other nations with Airborne regiments would think we were lame-arsed civvies that couldn't spell or fight their way out of a paper bag.

An Airborne Regt. on the other hand would be a fine idea.

Then why pine for the return of the Airbourne if there are already other elite units?

The name is irreversibly tainted. Let it remain dead.

Im quite sure that is what is going to happen. Seriously though, why do we need paratroopers at all? :?

Sure its a fun course, but when was the last time Canada dropped into combat?

You miss the point of having a flexible response to ever changing mission parameters.

The more highly trained a unit is, the more flexible the response.
Airborne forces have always been seen as an elite and as long as discipline is maintained, this is a good thing.

Do search on the threads, this has been a well discussed topic in the past.

Yes but I bring it up again, isnt the purpose of CSOR and JTF2 supposed to take the place of the Airborne? Also, your adverage soldier can always put his name forward to get his jump wings. I still think it is far more likely that troops will be air lifted into an area rather then dropped, somewhat hap hazardly, into an area.

Nope, wrong again.
We are talking about highly trained infantry, not special forces.
Airborne troops are basically light infantry. When and if they do jump, they don't get to take a lot of kit with them.
They are trained not only in jumping, but to be the 'tip-of-the-spear' or 'spearhead' battalions in battlefield ops, as part of a larger combat unit/brigade etc.
This has been the traditional role of UK/US and Canadian airborne forces since their inception.

JTF2 are special forces.
I'm aware of CSOR and from what I can see they are a bit of a hybrid unit that balances infantry with spec ops but I'm sure some of the pongos on the forum have more up-to-date gen on them.
