Chumley Chumley: Bah, I thought she was going to look like this. Would help solve the recruitment problem, you'd have mobs of Canadian men volunteering to become seamen.

Regina Regina: I'd be even more impressed if she only spoke English..........or maybe that's not something they allow. She wouldn't have been made Lietenant Commander unless she received her qualification to show that she's functional in French (speak, understand and written). If she wants to make Flag officer she have to get her qualification to show she's fluent. She's actually the first female commander of a major warship. There was a woman who made commander of one of the MCDVs two or three years ago (can't remember her name), however I guess because she was reserve it wasn't as "big" a news story as this one is.

As some of you may know, I am i the Navy and I have never sailed a ship without females. There were a lot of complaints at first because the wives thought their husbands were going to be cheating on them (how little they actually knew) the women have kept the men a little more honest I think so in my opinion it has been good for the Navy.
It is also excellent that a female made the rank of Commander, if she wasnt qualified she wouldnt be anywhere near a ship to begin with. I have seen numerous CO's fired because of incompetence and poor leadership, so really regardless of the sex of the CO if they cant do the job they wont be there long.
I sailed with one CO who rammed the ship into 3 jetties in one day, he got the title captain crunch and was sent to Officer Hell...otherwise known as NDHQ....and he will never progress any further nor will he get another kick at the cat.
In 2006 a ship going to Hawaii sailed through a hurricane with 8 people injured, the CO had the choice of diverting to San Diego where the weather was better or keep going, he kept going because Hawaii was closer, that took balls and cost 3 more people their careers due to injury, as the seas only got rougher, at one point they were in 20 metre swells.

She's pretty 'plain'. I'd like a really hot, cougar type chick to be my boss. Oh yea!

I haven't kept in touch the last few years but I think I know her. If it's the same women, her husband was a Rear Admiral.

There is, believe me gentlemen, nothing sexier on earth than a woman you have to salute in the morning. Promote 'em all I say.

Sorry women, but you should be staying at home looking after your kids. That's the way God made you and what you excel at. As to whether or not a female can command a ship under fire, that's anyones guess. Not very likely tho, women are not wired to think and make quick decisions, they are wired to multi task yes, but there's a whole world of difference between carrying a phone and doing 5 things and looking after a child's needs versus commanding a war ship. Women get extremely emotional and that clouds their decision making ability, especially when it's that time of the month. I particularly feel bad for female pilots on long hauls locked in a small cockpit with a very inadequate toilet facility, that must be especially trying when its that time of the month.
