you want double-standards? civilians only have to answer to written legislation which directly pertains to the offense, be it Criminal Code, Liquor License Act, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act etc.
Police Officers on the other hand have to answer to the above AND the PSA (Police Services Act) AND are now liable to civil litigation for action taken when on duty.
So they should. Police officers enjoy a valued place in society and are given tremendous power that is not afforded to ordinary citizens. Rightfully so, because most police officers are decent people who do a difficult job most of us are unable to do.
But sometimes, even coppers fuck up. When it happens in the course of their duties, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
But when they carry on like idiots off-duty, doling out booze-fuelled mayhem, then they deserve a legal kick in the nuts, and I'll be the first one calling for it.
This case warrants detailed investigation, and if they committed a criminal act, they should be dealt with accordingly.
I completely agree, and it is definitely good that these safe guards are in place to catch and punish illegal activities carried out by people who are here to protect the public.
I as well am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and will not condemn these men on the weight of media attention alone....funny touch of irony here, I was accused of promoting summary execution in the 5 cent solution, by people who obviously didn't get the solution....now people are screaming to hang these officers on the weight of a couple of media interviews...funny.
with that said, I will be the first in line to lock these guys up if a court of law weighs the evidence of BOTH SIDES and comes to an appropriate conclusion.
