He actually HAS been over there.
So?
Perhaps, in spite of being photographed holding a weapon he is/was a gas jockey - or a paper pusher.
He's a Sapper. Combat Engineer. That's a front line, outside the wire job.

AC is correct - when you're in a firefight it's exactly that - no one gives a rat's about who on the 'other' side gets shot - the objective is the mission, and getting your sorry arse out in one piece - along with your mates, natch.
Of course it is. Nobody would deny that in a fire fight, a soldier's first goal is winning and survival.
But that's not what Semrau is accused of. He's accused of shooting an unarmed Taliban outside of the heat of battle.
The charges may be false, the investigation may have been shoddy, the motivations behind the investigation may have been politically motivated.
Or he could be a murderer.
We don't know.
He's entitled to a presumption of innocence. He's entitled to a vigorous defence. He's entitled to a fair trial. He's even entitled to the support and understanding of his fellow citizens.
But you can't just assume his actions were above reproach, and you can't just say anything he does over there is acceptable because he's "Putting his life on the line for his country."
